You Are:
UST is searching for an AWS Cloud Architect to lead the architecture and execution of our on-premises to AWS migration. This role owns the end-to-end target-state design for a complex application landscape that includes Liferay, SiteCore, PingFederate, ETL jobs, and Angular/Node.js applications — and works hands-on with DevOps practices to get workloads safely into production on AWS.
The opportunity:
- Own the target-state AWS architecture for the on-premises to AWS migration across the application portfolio
- Assess existing on-prem applications — Liferay, SiteCore, PingFederate, ETL jobs, Angular/Node.js services — and define per-application migration strategy (rehost, replatform, refactor)
- Design AWS infrastructure and integration patterns for portal/CMS platforms (Liferay, SiteCore) and identity/SSO (PingFederate)
- Architect migration and re-platforming of ETL jobs onto AWS-native or AWS-compatible data processing services
- Define CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (build, test, deploy, containerization) for migrated applications
- Establish cloud engineering standards, guardrails, and reference architectures for teams to follow during migration
- Lead technical design reviews, migration runbooks, and cutover planning across application teams
- Partner with security and DevSecOps to ensure migrated applications meet compliance and security requirements
- Provide hands-on architectural guidance and troubleshooting support during build and cutover phases
- Define and implement the observability strategy for migrated applications using Dynatrace
- Design certificate management architecture using AWS Certificate Manager (ACM) for migrated applications and load balancers
This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.
What you need:
- (Must Have) AWS Cloud Architecture
- Extensive hands-on experience architecting and delivering solutions on AWS
- Experience leading on-premises to AWS migration projects, including migration strategy and target-state design
- Strong understanding of AWS core services — compute, networking, storage, security, and database Observability (Dynatrace)
- Hands-on experience implementing and configuring Dynatrace for application and infrastructure observability
- Experience defining monitoring, logging, and dashboarding strategy for migrated cloud workloads
- Comfortable using Dynatrace for root-cause analysis and performance troubleshooting during and after migration
- Hands-on expertise provisioning and managing SSL/TLS certificates using AWS Certificate Manager
- Experience integrating ACM with CloudFront, load balancers (ALB/NLB), and API Gateway
- Understands certificate renewal automation, validation methods (DNS/email), and cross-account/cross-region certificate strategies
- Hands-on DevOps experience — CI/CD pipeline design, automation, and containerization (Docker)
- Experience embedding DevOps and DevSecOps practices into migration and deployment workflows
- Comfortable working across infrastructure as code, build pipelines, and deployment automation
- Experience with Liferay portal architecture, deployment, and integration
- Experience with SiteCore architecture and hosting on cloud infrastructure
- Experience with PingFederate for SSO/federated identity and integration with cloud applications
- Experience with ETL job design, migration, and orchestration
- Experience with Angular front-end and Node.js backend application architectures
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Certifications
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
- Additional Experience
- Familiarity with AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), AWS DMS, or AWS DataSync

Which companies sponsor visas for cloud architects in Illinois?
Large enterprises with established immigration programs are the most consistent sponsors for cloud architects in Illinois. Companies like Motorola Solutions, Discover Financial Services, Walgreens Boots Alliance, United Airlines, and Allstate have a track record of H-1B visa filings for cloud and infrastructure roles. Major consulting firms such as Accenture, Deloitte, and Infosys also sponsor cloud architects through their Chicago offices.
Which visa types are most common for cloud architect roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa for cloud architects in Illinois, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related field. L-1A and L-1B visas are also used when candidates transfer within a multinational company. O-1 visas apply in rare cases where an architect has demonstrated extraordinary achievement in the field.
Which cities in Illinois have the most cloud architect sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of cloud architect sponsorship activity in Illinois, particularly in the Loop, River North, and Fulton Market tech corridors. Suburban areas including Schaumburg, Downers Grove, and Lisle also generate meaningful hiring through large corporate campuses. Outside the Chicago metro, sponsorship opportunities for cloud architects are limited.
How to find cloud architect visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters cloud architect roles in Illinois by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. Because sponsoring employers in Illinois tend to be large enterprises or established consulting firms, filtering by company size and industry on Migrate Mate can help you focus on the most realistic opportunities.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for cloud architects seeking visa sponsorship?
Illinois cloud architect roles are concentrated in industries with active H-1B sponsorship histories, including financial services, insurance, logistics, and enterprise technology. The University of Illinois system and Illinois Institute of Technology produce a steady pipeline of talent that employers are familiar sponsoring. Cloud architects should be aware that prevailing wage requirements are determined by the specific metropolitan area, and Chicago wage levels reflect a high-cost market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored cloud architect jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
