Which companies sponsor visas for cybersecurity engineers in Illinois?
Several large Illinois employers have consistent H-1B filing histories for cybersecurity engineers. Motorola Solutions, Discover Financial Services, Allstate, Northern Trust, and Baxter International are among the more active sponsors. Major consulting firms with Chicago offices, including Accenture and Deloitte, also file regularly for cybersecurity roles. Defense contractors operating near Schaumburg and the broader Chicago metro contribute additional sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for cybersecurity engineer roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for cybersecurity engineers in Illinois, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical field. Some candidates also enter through L-1B intracompany transfers if they're moving from an overseas office of the same employer. O-1A petitions are a separate option for those with demonstrable recognition in the field.
Which cities in Illinois have the most cybersecurity engineer sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the large majority of cybersecurity engineer sponsorship activity in Illinois, driven by its financial services, healthcare, and technology sectors. Schaumburg is a secondary concentration point, home to Motorola Solutions' headquarters and a cluster of technology and manufacturing firms. Deerfield, Lisle, and other suburban Cook and DuPage County locations also appear in Department of Labor LCA filings for cybersecurity roles.
How to find cybersecurity engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have demonstrated H-1B sponsorship willingness, so you can focus on cybersecurity engineer positions in Illinois without sorting through companies unlikely to sponsor. Searching by the Illinois location on Migrate Mate surfaces openings concentrated in Chicago, Schaumburg, and surrounding suburbs across finance, healthcare, and technology sectors.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for cybersecurity engineers pursuing visa sponsorship?
Illinois employers filing H-1B petitions must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific job location, which means Chicago-area wages are benchmarked against local market data rather than national averages. The University of Illinois system and Illinois Institute of Technology produce a notable pipeline of cybersecurity graduates, meaning employers in the state are generally familiar with sponsoring candidates coming out of OPT or STEM OPT extensions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored cybersecurity engineer jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
