Role
We are looking for a Sr. Staff Software Development Engineer-AI Security to join us as a founding member of our AI Security Team. This is a Hybrid role based in San Jose, CA or Bellevue, WA (3 days in office), reporting to the Director of Software Engineering within the Emerging Tech org.
You will be responsible for designing and implementing core infrastructure components and distributed systems, serving as a foundational architect for our AI security solution. This high-impact role focuses on scaling security infrastructure to support hundreds of millions of users, collaborating with stakeholders across the development lifecycle to drive innovation and technical excellence.
What you’ll do (Role Expectations)
- Architect, develop, and optimize a low-latency, high-throughput AI Security plane utilizing Rust, specifically leveraging its async/await model for highly efficient I/O and service-oriented architecture
- Build resilient, distributed, and scalable systems, emphasizing concurrency, fault tolerance, and robust messaging protocols
- Implement and maintain gRPC services and APIs to ensure seamless integration of the AI Security plane with control and orchestration infrastructure
- Systematically enhance performance across the entire stack, including LLM models, by employing profiling tools for both kernel-space and user-space components
- Lead complex, multi-functional projects and initiatives, defining the technical roadmap and driving execution across teams
Who You Are (Success Profile)
- You thrive in ambiguity. You're comfortable building the path as you walk it. You thrive in a dynamic environment, seeing ambiguity not as a hindrance, but as the raw material to build something meaningful.
- You act like an owner. Your passion for the mission fuels your bias for action. You operate with integrity because you genuinely care about the outcome. True ownership involves leveraging dynamic range: the ability to navigate seamlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
- You are a problem-solver. You love running towards the challenges because you are laser-focused on finding the solution, knowing that solving the hard problems delivers the biggest impact.
- You are a high-trust collaborator. You are ambitious for the team, not just yourself. You embrace our challenge culture by giving and receiving ongoing feedback—knowing that candor delivered with clarity and respect is the truest form of teamwork and the fastest way to earn trust.
- You are a learner. You have a true growth mindset and are obsessed with your own development, actively seeking feedback to become a better partner and a stronger teammate. You love what you do and you do it with purpose.
What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- Deep experience in systems programming using Rust, with a focus on asynchronous frameworks such as Tokio or async-std
- Proven ability to design and implement horizontally scalable, highly available, and observable distributed systems
- Strong command of Linux internals, including kernel-user space interaction, networking, sockets, and namespaces
- Skilled in performance instrumentation, containerized environments, Git workflows, and CI/CD pipelines
What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
- Expert in systems languages such as C/C++ or Rust, with a focus on performance optimization
- Deep understanding of Linux networking stacks, Kubernetes networking, service meshes, and LLM model optimization
- Practical experience with gRPC, Protobufs, and L4-L7 networking protocols, including TCP/IP, TLS, QUIC, HTTP, and WebSockets (WSS)
Base Pay Range

Search Cybersecurity Engineer Jobs in WashingtonCybersecurity Engineer Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for cybersecurity engineers in Washington?
Microsoft, Amazon, and Boeing are among the most consistent sponsors of cybersecurity engineers in Washington, based on Department of Labor LCA disclosure data. Beyond those anchor employers, companies like Expedia, T-Mobile, Smartsheet, and a range of federal defense contractors operating around the Puget Sound area have also filed sponsorships for cybersecurity roles. Cloud security and identity management firms in the Bellevue-Redmond corridor add further depth to the sponsoring employer pool.
Which visa types are most common for cybersecurity engineer roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for cybersecurity engineers in Washington. Cybersecurity engineering typically meets the specialty occupation standard because the role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a closely related field. Some candidates also qualify under the O-1A for extraordinary ability, particularly those with published research, certifications like CISSP at a recognized level, or notable professional recognition. Canadians and Mexicans may be eligible for the TN visa under the engineer category.
Which cities in Washington have the most cybersecurity engineer sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and Bellevue account for the large majority of cybersecurity engineer sponsorship activity in Washington, anchored by the headquarters presence of Microsoft in Redmond and Amazon in Seattle. Kirkland and Redmond also see meaningful activity given the density of mid-size tech companies in that corridor. Tacoma and the Joint Base Lewis-McChord area generate demand through defense and government-adjacent contractors, though at a lower volume than the Seattle metro.
How to find cybersecurity engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters cybersecurity engineer roles in Washington by visa sponsorship willingness, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. Beyond using Migrate Mate, searching Department of Labor LCA disclosure data by job title and Washington state can confirm which employers have recently sponsored cybersecurity roles, giving you a verified shortlist of companies worth targeting directly.
Are there any Washington-specific factors that affect cybersecurity engineer visa sponsorship?
Washington's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B sponsorship are set at levels reflecting the Seattle metro's elevated compensation market, which employers must meet or exceed when filing a Labor Condition Application. The state's strong university pipeline from the University of Washington's Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering produces a steady flow of OPT-eligible candidates, making Seattle-area employers generally familiar with the sponsorship process. Defense contractors operating under federal contracts may have additional clearance requirements that interact with visa status eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored cybersecurity engineer jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
