Which companies sponsor visas for cybersecurity engineers in Iowa?
Principal Financial Group, Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Collins Aerospace, and UnityPoint Health are among the Iowa-based employers with documented H-1B filing histories for technology roles. Large financial institutions with Des Moines headquarters tend to sponsor most consistently, while defense contractors in Cedar Rapids such as Collins Aerospace regularly petition for cybersecurity and information assurance engineers.
Which visa types are most common for cybersecurity engineer roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa for cybersecurity engineers in Iowa, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information security, or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on OPT or STEM OPT may also find employers willing to sponsor the transition. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying computer-related occupations.
Which cities in Iowa have the most cybersecurity engineer sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines accounts for the largest share of cybersecurity engineering sponsorship activity in Iowa, driven by its concentration of financial services and insurance headquarters. Cedar Rapids is the second most active market, supported by Collins Aerospace and regional technology employers. Iowa City, home to the University of Iowa, sees some cybersecurity hiring tied to healthcare IT and university research infrastructure.
How to find cybersecurity engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and lets you filter cybersecurity engineer roles by state, so you can browse Iowa positions from employers with active sponsorship histories. Rather than sorting through general job postings where sponsorship intent is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces roles where employers have demonstrated willingness to sponsor, saving significant research time for candidates on OPT, H-1B, or other work visa pathways.
Are there state-specific factors that affect cybersecurity engineer sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa's relatively lower cost of living means prevailing wage requirements for cybersecurity engineers, which employers must meet under H-1B rules, are generally set below rates in coastal tech hubs. This can make Iowa employers more willing to absorb sponsorship costs. The University of Iowa and Iowa State University also produce a pipeline of international graduates in computer science and information security, which has helped normalize sponsorship among established Iowa employers in finance, insurance, and defense sectors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored cybersecurity engineer jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
