Which companies sponsor visas for cybersecurity engineers in Massachusetts?
Several large employers in Massachusetts have consistent track records of sponsoring cybersecurity engineers. Defense contractors including Raytheon Technologies and Leidos, financial services firms like Fidelity Investments and State Street, and technology companies such as Carbon Black and Rapid7 (both headquartered in the state) regularly file H-1B visa petitions for cybersecurity roles. Academic medical centers and research institutions affiliated with Harvard and MIT also sponsor for security-focused positions.
Which visa types are most common for cybersecurity engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa for cybersecurity engineers in Massachusetts, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field. Some defense contractors require security clearances, which can complicate sponsorship for non-citizens. Candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT, particularly graduates from Boston-area universities, are frequently hired into roles with H-1B sponsorship as the next step.
How to find cybersecurity engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters cybersecurity engineer roles in Massachusetts by visa sponsorship history, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who don't sponsor. The platform surfaces positions from defense contractors, financial institutions, and security-focused tech firms across Greater Boston and the Route 128 corridor, which are the primary hiring hubs for this role in the state.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most cybersecurity engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of cybersecurity engineer sponsorship activity in Massachusetts, anchored by financial services firms, biotech companies, and research institutions. Waltham and Lexington along the Route 128 corridor are significant hubs for defense and government contracting roles. Bedford and Burlington also see consistent hiring from mid-sized security vendors and managed security service providers with sponsorship histories.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific factors cybersecurity engineers should know about visa sponsorship?
Massachusetts has a high concentration of defense and intelligence-adjacent employers, and some cybersecurity roles at these organizations require U.S. security clearances, which are generally not available to foreign nationals. This narrows the sponsorship pool compared to commercial tech sectors. However, the state's strong university pipeline, particularly from Northeastern, BU, and MIT, means employers are accustomed to hiring international candidates and initiating H-1B sponsorship through established legal processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored cybersecurity engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
