Which visa types are most common for project development manager roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project development managers in Illinois, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, business, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. L-1A visas apply when multinational employers transfer managers from overseas offices. Senior candidates with exceptional records may explore the O-1 visa category.

How to find project development manager visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it practical to search for project development manager roles in Illinois without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by state and role type to surface employers actively hiring internationally for project development management in Chicago and across Illinois. Creating a profile also helps match you with relevant openings as they're posted.
Are there state-specific or role-specific factors to know about project development manager sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois employers sponsoring H-1B workers must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the specific role and location, which differs between Chicago metro and downstate areas. Illinois has a strong pipeline of international talent through universities like the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University, meaning employers in the state are generally familiar with sponsorship processes. Construction and infrastructure-focused project development roles may require licensure beyond visa approval.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project development manager jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
