Which companies sponsor visas for project program managers in Illinois?
Several large Illinois-based employers have consistent histories of sponsoring work visas for project program managers. These include Motorola Solutions, Caterpillar, United Airlines, Allstate, and Abbott Laboratories, along with major consulting and technology firms operating out of Chicago such as Accenture and Cognizant. Multinational manufacturers headquartered in the Chicago metro and Peoria areas also file regularly for H-1B sponsorship in program management roles.
Which visa types are most common for project program manager roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most widely used visa category for project program managers in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, business, or information systems. L-1A visas are another pathway for candidates transferring from a foreign office of an Illinois-based multinational. TN status applies specifically to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management roles under the USMCA.
Which cities in Illinois have the most project program manager sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of project program manager sponsorship opportunities in Illinois, driven by its density of corporate headquarters, technology firms, and financial institutions. The broader Chicago metro area, including suburbs like Schaumburg, Deerfield, and Oak Brook, adds significant volume through major corporate campuses. Peoria and the Quad Cities region offer additional opportunities through Caterpillar and related industrial employers, though at much smaller scale than Chicago.
How to find project program manager visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters project program manager roles in Illinois by visa sponsorship willingness, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. The platform surfaces roles from companies with documented H-1B filing histories in Illinois, which is particularly useful in program management where sponsorship eligibility depends heavily on how the employer classifies the role and what degree field they require.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for project program managers seeking visa sponsorship?
Illinois employers sponsoring H-1B project program managers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific metro area, with Chicago wages reflecting a higher cost-of-market compared to downstate Illinois. The state's strong university pipeline from institutions like University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University means many Illinois employers are accustomed to OPT and STEM OPT extensions, which can be a practical bridge while pursuing H-1B sponsorship. Program management roles at government contractors may also carry additional employment eligibility requirements.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project program manager jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
