You’ll serve as a trusted technical advisor, guiding clients through MAS environment strategy, upgrades, operational readiness, and integration architecture while leading teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Your Role
As a Manager, you will be accountable for owning and leading defined technical portions of client engagements, managing people, delivery quality, and risk, and serving as a trusted technical advisor to client and EY leadership. The Manager is expected to operate with limited supervision, make day-to-day delivery decisions independently, and escalate only material risks or strategic tradeoffs.
This role combines deep MAS technical architecture ownership with EY consulting leadership expectations, including team management, engagement execution, and contribution to practice growth.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Manage delivery of MAS technical services across one or more client engagements, driving execution, quality, and risk management
- Serve as technical design authority for MAS on OpenShift, defining patterns for scalability, security, and supportability across DEV/TEST/UAT/PROD.
- Lead MAS install/configure/patch/upgrade planning and execution, coordinating with OpenShift teams on cluster health, scaling, storage, and resource governance.
- Guide operational configuration including system properties, logging/diagnostics, cron governance, performance tuning, and complex troubleshooting.
- Define and oversee Maximo integrations using MIF, APIs, and messaging/event-driven patterns, including monitoring and error-handling standards
- Work with security/IAM teams on SSO (LDAP/AD/SAML/OIDC), secrets and certificate management, and audit/vulnerability remediation.
- Coach and mentor team members, contribute to proposals and practice development, and promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Enhance our brand through strong external relationships across a network of existing and future clients.
- Provide strategic and relevant insight, connectedness, and responsiveness to all clients to anticipate their needs.
- Develop external eminence in the MAS technical and related OpenShift space.
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially around breaking down complex structures into digestible and relevant points for a diverse set of clients and colleagues at all levels.
- Ability to challenge and inspire both coworkers and clients to think about difficult situations in new and transformative ways.
- Provide innovative commercial insights for clients, adapt methods and practices to fit operational team and cultural needs, and contribute to thought leadership.
- Actively contribute to improving operational efficiency on projects and internal initiatives.
- Consistently drive projects to completion with high quality, in line with our commitment to quality.
- Lead teams or parts of teams on engagements, anticipating and identifying risks and escalating issues as appropriate.
- Help create a positive learning culture, coach and counsel junior team members, and help them develop.
To qualify for the role you must have
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, Engineering, Marketing, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including 4+ years delivering Maximo/MAS services.
- Experience with IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS) in OpenShift/Kubernetes environments, including upgrades and operational governance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across platforms, applications, and integrations; experience supporting enterprise production environments.
Ideally, you will also have
- Experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) – how code, configuration, and platform changes are built, tested, and promoted across environments in a controlled, repeatable way.
- Experience guiding teams in the use of DevOps/SRE, observability, and automation practices to improve reliability, deployment consistency, and operational supportability of enterprise platforms.
- Experience with MAS add-ons (e.g., Monitor, Predict, Visual Inspection, Assist).
- Experience in asset-intensive industries (e.g., utilities or manufacturing) and/or adjacent solutions such as GIS/mobility.
- Experience with SAP EAM, Infor EAM, and/or Oracle products.

Which companies sponsor visas for technical managers in Illinois?
Illinois has a well-established group of H-1B sponsors for technical manager roles. Motorola Solutions, Zebra Technologies, Hyatt, and United Airlines have filed H-1B petitions for technical management positions in recent years. Chicago's large financial sector adds employers like CME Group, Morningstar, and major banks. Consulting firms with significant Illinois presences, including Accenture and Infosys, also regularly sponsor technical managers.
Which visa types are most common for technical manager roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for technical managers in Illinois, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Intracompany transfers via the L-1A are also relatively common, particularly for managers moving into Illinois offices of multinational firms. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for TN status under the engineer or computer systems analyst categories, depending on the specific role.
Which cities in Illinois have the most technical manager sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the large majority of technical manager sponsorship activity in Illinois, particularly in the Loop, River North, and Fulton Market tech corridors. The suburban Northwest corridor, including Schaumburg, Rolling Meadows, and Hoffman Estates, is home to major technology employers like Motorola Solutions and Zurich North America. Downers Grove and Lisle in the western suburbs also have a meaningful concentration of enterprise technology companies that sponsor technical roles.
How to find technical manager visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for technical manager roles in Illinois without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by location, including Chicago and key suburban markets, to focus your search. Because technical manager is a senior role, filtering for H-1B-sponsoring employers in Illinois's fintech, healthcare IT, and enterprise technology sectors tends to surface the most relevant opportunities.
Are there state-specific considerations for technical managers pursuing sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois does not impose state-level visa sponsorship requirements beyond federal H-1B rules, but the Illinois Department of Labor enforces prevailing wage standards that overlap with federal Department of Labor obligations for LCA filings. Chicago's strong university pipeline, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois Institute of Technology, means employers are accustomed to sponsoring international talent into technical roles. Candidates should confirm that a prospective employer has an active H-1B sponsorship history before investing significant time in the application process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical manager jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
