Which companies sponsor visas for social workers in Indiana?
Hospital systems and large nonprofits account for most social work sponsorship activity in Indiana. Indiana University Health, Eskenazi Health, Franciscan Health, and Parkview Health have sponsored foreign national employees in clinical and community roles. County-level child welfare offices under the Indiana Department of Child Services also hire internationally, though sponsorship frequency varies by office and funding cycles.
Which visa types are most common for social work roles in Indiana?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) and MSW-level positions, as these roles typically require a specialized master's degree and qualify as specialty occupations. Some nonprofit and government-affiliated employers may be cap-exempt, meaning they can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery. The J-1 visa exchange visitor visa appears in academic medical center and research contexts.
Which cities in Indiana have the most social work sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis concentrates the largest share of sponsorship-eligible social work roles, driven by its hospital systems, behavioral health networks, and state agency headquarters. Fort Wayne and South Bend also have active hiring markets, particularly through regional health systems and Catholic Charities affiliates. Smaller markets like Bloomington and Lafayette see demand tied to Indiana University and Purdue University's campus counseling and student services operations.
How to find social work visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and filters social work roles by state, so you can browse Indiana positions without sorting through employers who don't sponsor. Search for MSW, LCSW, and case management titles filtered to Indiana on Migrate Mate. Focusing on hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and large nonprofits will surface the employers most likely to support H-1B petitions.
Are there any Indiana-specific considerations for international social workers pursuing sponsorship?
Indiana requires state licensure for clinical practice, and international candidates must have their foreign credentials evaluated by an approved body before applying for an LCSW or LMHC license through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. Some employers factor in the licensure timeline when deciding whether to initiate sponsorship, so having a credential evaluation completed before applying strengthens your candidacy. MSW programs at Indiana University and IUPUI also create local pipelines that some employers actively recruit from.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored social work jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
