Which companies sponsor visas for clinical assistants in Iowa?
The largest sponsors for clinical assistant roles in Iowa tend to be major health systems. UnityPoint Health, MercyOne, and University of Iowa Health Care have all filed work visa petitions for healthcare support staff in the past. Smaller regional clinics and federally qualified health centers occasionally sponsor as well, particularly when filling persistent vacancies in underserved areas of the state.
Which visa types are most common for clinical assistant roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most widely used visa for clinical assistant positions that require a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as health sciences or a related discipline. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare occupations. For roles tied to academic medical centers like University of Iowa Health Care, J-1 exchange visitor status occasionally applies, though it comes with a two-year home residency requirement.
Which cities in Iowa have the most clinical assistant sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines has the highest concentration of clinical assistant openings given its size and the presence of MercyOne and UnityPoint Health headquarters operations. Iowa City follows closely, driven by University of Iowa Health Care and its affiliated clinics. Cedar Rapids also has meaningful activity through MercyOne Cedar Rapids Medical Center. Smaller markets like Davenport and Waterloo see periodic openings but at lower volumes.
How to find clinical assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship roles, including clinical assistant positions in Iowa. You can filter by state and role to surface employers in Iowa who have a history of sponsoring international hires. This saves time compared to manually screening job postings that rarely specify sponsorship availability upfront. Creating a profile on Migrate Mate also lets you track new Iowa clinical assistant openings as they appear.
Are there state-specific considerations for clinical assistant roles and visa sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa does not impose additional state-level licensing hurdles specific to visa-holding clinical assistants beyond standard credentialing requirements. However, prevailing wage rules under H-1B regulations require employers to pay the federally determined wage for the Des Moines or Iowa City metropolitan areas, which can differ from rural Iowa rates. University of Iowa Health Care, as a cap-exempt employer, can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery window, which is worth understanding when evaluating opportunities there.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored clinical assistant jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
