Which companies sponsor visas for tax managers in Iowa?
The most consistent sponsors for tax manager roles in Iowa are large financial services and insurance companies headquartered in Des Moines, including Principal Financial Group and Nationwide. Regional offices of the Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids also sponsor regularly. Manufacturing companies with significant Iowa operations, such as John Deere, have sponsored tax professionals at the manager level as well.
Which visa types are most common for tax manager roles in Iowa?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for tax managers in Iowa, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA-holding candidates from Canada or Mexico may also qualify under the TN visa as accountants. Candidates with extraordinary achievement in taxation may explore the O-1 visa, though that standard is high and rarely met at the manager level.
Which cities in Iowa have the most tax manager sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines accounts for the majority of tax manager sponsorship activity in Iowa, driven by its concentration of insurance carriers, financial institutions, and professional services firms. Cedar Rapids is a secondary market with manufacturing and insurance employers that occasionally sponsor. Iowa City and Ames have smaller but notable demand, partly connected to university-adjacent business operations, though sponsorship in those markets is less frequent.
How to find tax manager visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship, so you can search tax manager roles in Iowa without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces active openings from employers with documented sponsorship history. Because tax manager roles in Iowa are concentrated in Des Moines, filtering by that city on Migrate Mate will capture most of the relevant opportunities.
Are there state-specific considerations for tax managers seeking sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa follows federal H-1B prevailing wage requirements, so sponsoring employers must pay wages meeting Department of Labor standards for the Des Moines or Cedar Rapids metro areas, depending on work location. Iowa does not impose additional state-level visa or work authorization requirements beyond federal rules. Candidates with a CPA license issued by another state will generally need to evaluate Iowa's reciprocity rules if client-facing work requires licensure in Iowa.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax manager jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
