Which companies sponsor visas for architects in Kansas?
Architecture firms with documented H-1B sponsorship history in Kansas include GLMV Architecture and Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey in Wichita, along with national firms such as HOK and Populous that maintain Kansas City-area presence. Engineering and construction companies that employ architects on mixed design-build teams, such as those supporting aviation and healthcare facilities, also appear in federal LCA disclosure data as sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for architect roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for international architects in Kansas, as architecture meets the specialty occupation standard requiring a professional degree. The O-1A is an option for architects with significant awards, publications, or exhibition credits demonstrating extraordinary ability. Architects from Australia may qualify for the E-3, and Canadian or Mexican nationals can pursue TN status under the USMCA, which lists architecture as a qualifying profession.
Which cities in Kansas have the most architect sponsorship jobs?
Wichita accounts for the largest share of architecture employment in Kansas, driven by commercial development, healthcare facility expansion, and proximity to the aviation industry. Kansas City, on the Kansas side, offers additional opportunities through mixed-use and civic projects connected to the broader metro area. Lawrence and Overland Park also have smaller but active markets, particularly for residential and educational building projects.
How to find architect visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a track record of visa sponsorship, saving architect candidates in Kansas from sorting through postings that don't lead anywhere. You can search by state and role to surface openings at Kansas firms in Wichita, the Kansas City metro, and surrounding areas. Reviewing LCA disclosure data alongside Migrate Mate listings helps confirm which employers have actively sponsored architecture roles in the past.
What should international architects know about working in Kansas?
Kansas requires architects to hold licensure through the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions, which follows the standard NCARB path including AXP experience hours and ARE exams. Prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules mean sponsoring employers must pay the DOL-determined wage for the specific role and location, which varies between Wichita and Kansas City metro areas. International graduates from programs like the University of Kansas School of Architecture may have an advantage through established employer relationships in the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architect jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
