Search Architect Jobs in TexasArchitect Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for architects in Texas?
Large architecture and design firms with Texas offices have the most established H-1B sponsorship track records. Gensler's Houston and Dallas studios, HOK, Page, HKS, and Jacobs Engineering regularly appear in Department of Labor LCA filings for architect roles. Corporate real estate developers and large healthcare systems with in-house design teams also sponsor, though less frequently than dedicated architecture practices.
Which visa types are most common for architect roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for licensed or credentialed architects in Texas, as the role meets the specialty occupation standard when a professional degree in architecture is required. Architects from Canada or Mexico may qualify for the TN visa under NAFTA/USMCA, which has no annual cap and can be processed at the border. O-1A is an option for architects with significant awards, publications, or recognition in the field.
Which cities in Texas have the most architect sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads in volume, driven by energy sector headquarters, Texas Medical Center expansion, and commercial development. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, with major corporate campuses and mixed-use urban projects fueling demand. Austin's sustained tech-driven growth has increased architect hiring there as well. San Antonio has a smaller but consistent market anchored by healthcare and military base construction projects.
How to find architect visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for architect roles in Texas without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces openings from firms with documented sponsorship histories in the state. Filtering by city, firm type, and project specialty helps narrow results to roles matching your experience in commercial, healthcare, or residential architecture.
Are there state-specific considerations for architects seeking visa sponsorship in Texas?
Texas requires architects to hold a license from the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners to use the title and stamp drawings independently. International candidates in H-1B status can work under a licensed architect's supervision while completing their own licensure requirements. Texas's ongoing construction activity means prevailing wage determinations for architect roles vary significantly by metropolitan area, with Houston and Austin generally reflecting higher wage levels than smaller markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architect jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
