Which companies sponsor visas for architects in South Carolina?
Mid-size and large architecture firms with established HR infrastructure are the most common sponsors. In South Carolina, firms like LS3P, Boudreaux, and McMillan Pazdan Smith have hired internationally credentialed architects. Larger engineering and design firms operating statewide, particularly those tied to healthcare systems like MUSC or university campus projects, are also known to sponsor. Smaller studios rarely sponsor due to the administrative cost involved.
Which visa types are most common for architect roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architects in South Carolina, as architecture qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architecture. The O-1A is an option for architects with exceptional recognition, such as published work, awards, or significant projects. TN status applies to Canadian and Mexican citizens with a qualifying architecture credential. Each pathway has distinct employer obligations and timelines.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most architect sponsorship jobs?
Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville account for the majority of architecture hiring in South Carolina. Charleston's historic preservation requirements and coastal development pipeline draw specialized talent. Columbia, as the state capital, generates institutional and government-adjacent work. Greenville has seen significant growth in corporate and mixed-use projects tied to its expanding manufacturing economy, which increasingly requires supporting design and infrastructure services.
How to find architect visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters architecture roles in South Carolina specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify employers already open to international candidates. Search for architect positions in Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville, then review employer hiring history and sponsorship signals. Targeting firms involved in healthcare, higher education, or large-scale commercial development in South Carolina tends to yield the most sponsorship-eligible openings.
Are there state-specific considerations for architects seeking sponsorship in South Carolina?
Architectural licensure in South Carolina is administered by the South Carolina Board of Architectural Examiners. International candidates typically need to meet National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) certification requirements to pursue licensure, which employers may factor into hiring decisions. Firms working on publicly funded projects in South Carolina sometimes face additional compliance requirements that influence how they structure roles for sponsored employees.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architect jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
