Which companies sponsor visas for internships in Kansas?
Kansas employers with established internship programs that have supported international students include Spirit AeroSystems and Textron Aviation in Wichita's aerospace sector, Garmin in the Kansas City metro, and Koch Industries in Wichita. Engineering, manufacturing, and finance firms in the state tend to have the most structured programs with dedicated HR processes familiar with F-1 CPT and OPT authorization.
Which visa types are most common for internship roles in Kansas?
Most international interns in Kansas work under F-1 status using Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT), both authorized through their university's designated school official rather than directly by the employer. J-1 visa Exchange Visitor visas sponsored through a designated sponsor organization are also common, particularly for summer internship programs at larger Kansas employers in aerospace and engineering.
Which cities in Kansas have the most internship sponsorship jobs?
Wichita is the leading city for sponsored internships in Kansas, driven by its aerospace and aviation manufacturing industry. The Kansas City metro area, spanning the Kansas side with cities like Overland Park and Lenexa, offers technology, finance, and engineering internships. Lawrence and Manhattan see internship activity tied closely to the University of Kansas and Kansas State University hiring pipelines.
How to find internship visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters internship listings specifically by visa sponsorship, so you can browse Kansas opportunities without sorting through roles that don't support international candidates. For Kansas, focus your search on Wichita for aerospace and manufacturing internships and the Overland Park area for technology and finance. Migrate Mate's filters make it straightforward to identify which employers have active sponsored internship openings.
Are there any state-specific considerations for international interns in Kansas?
Kansas has a strong university pipeline through KU and Kansas State, and many Kansas employers are accustomed to hiring international students through existing F-1 CPT and OPT frameworks. Wichita's aerospace sector, in particular, sometimes involves defense contractors where security clearance requirements can limit eligibility for international candidates, so it's worth confirming clearance requirements with any employer before applying.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored internship jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
