Which companies sponsor visas for internships in Ohio?
Large employers with documented internship sponsorship activity in Ohio include Cleveland Clinic, Procter & Gamble, Nationwide Insurance, JPMorgan Chase, and Honda of America Manufacturing. Research universities and hospital systems are among the most consistent sponsors, particularly for STEM and healthcare-adjacent roles. Smaller technology firms in Columbus also hire international interns, though sponsorship frequency varies by company size and year.
Which visa types are most common for internship roles in Ohio?
F-1 students completing internships in Ohio most commonly use Curricular Practical Training (CPT) during their studies or Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation, neither of which requires employer-filed sponsorship in the traditional sense. For non-student international interns, the J-1 Exchange Visitor visa is the most common employer-sponsored pathway, typically arranged through a designated program sponsor organization. H-1B sponsorship for internships is rare given the role duration and cap constraints.
Which cities in Ohio have the most internship sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads Ohio for internship sponsorship volume, driven by Ohio State University's proximity and a growing technology and insurance sector. Cleveland follows, anchored by healthcare institutions including Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals. Cincinnati rounds out the top three, with consumer goods companies and financial services firms active in sponsored internship hiring. Smaller markets like Dayton and Akron see internship sponsorship primarily through manufacturing and polymer research employers.
How to find internship visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters internship-specific visa sponsorship jobs by state, making it straightforward to browse verified opportunities in Ohio without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. Because internship sponsorship in Ohio is concentrated in specific industries and employers, using a targeted source matters more than broad searches. Migrate Mate's Ohio internship listings are updated regularly and reflect active postings from employers with sponsorship history.
Are there state-specific considerations for international interns pursuing sponsorship in Ohio?
Ohio's large public university system, including Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Cincinnati, creates strong employer-to-campus pipelines that benefit international students on F-1 status pursuing CPT or OPT. Ohio has no state-level visa sponsorship program, so all sponsorship flows through federal categories. Employers in Ohio's manufacturing corridor are subject to the same prevailing wage requirements as any other state under Department of Labor rules, which apply to J-1 interns at some wage thresholds.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored internship jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
