Which companies sponsor visas for IT engineers in Kansas?
Garmin International in Olathe is one of the most active H-1B sponsors for IT engineering roles in Kansas, along with Cerner (now operating as Oracle Health) in Kansas City and Sprint (now T-Mobile) operations in Overland Park. Defense contractors near Wichita, such as Spirit AeroSystems and Boeing's Kansas facilities, also sponsor IT engineers, particularly for systems and network infrastructure roles tied to aerospace programs.
Which visa types are most common for IT engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the primary visa category for IT engineers in Kansas, covering roles like network engineer, systems engineer, and cloud infrastructure specialist that require at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field. Some IT engineers enter on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT before transitioning to H-1B. The L-1 visa applies to IT engineers transferred intracompany, particularly within large multinationals with Kansas offices.
Which cities in Kansas have the most IT engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Kansas City metro area, particularly Overland Park and Olathe on the Kansas side, accounts for the largest share of IT engineer sponsorship activity in the state. Topeka, as the state capital, hosts government IT contractors and healthcare technology employers. Wichita supports IT engineering roles primarily through aerospace and manufacturing companies, with Boeing, Spirit AeroSystems, and Textron Aviation driving demand for infrastructure and systems engineering talent.
How to find it engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters IT engineer jobs specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can search Kansas-based roles without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces openings from employers in the Overland Park and Wichita tech corridors, including positions at aviation, defense, and healthcare IT companies. Filtering by IT engineer roles in Kansas on Migrate Mate helps you identify which employers are actively filing H-1B petitions.
Are there state-specific considerations for IT engineers pursuing visa sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas has a lower cost of living than coastal tech hubs, which affects prevailing wage calculations under the H-1B Labor Condition Application. Employers must pay the higher of the actual or prevailing wage for the specific occupational classification and geographic area, determined by Department of Labor data for the Kansas City or Wichita metropolitan areas. IT engineers should confirm their offered role's SOC code matches their actual duties, as misclassification can complicate LCA compliance reviews.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored it engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
