About the Job…
We’re looking for a Junior Accountant who will be responsible for the day-to-day financial activity of VIA. You’ll work across accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, travel, job costing, and month-end close. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with numbers, understands how transactions connect to the bigger picture, and isn’t afraid to investigate when something doesn’t look right. You’ll work closely with the Finance and Operations teams and have visibility into the financial performance of the agency and its clients. The right person will bring strong attention to detail, curiosity, and a willingness to take ownership and follow things through.
What You’ll Do
- Process and maintain daily AP and AR transactions.
- Prepare journal entries and support the monthly close process.
- Assist with job costing, client billing, and financial reporting.
- Review expenses for accuracy and proper coding.
- Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity.
- Research financial issues and work with others to resolve them.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Support the Finance team with analysis, reporting, and special projects.
- Help identify opportunities to improve financial processes and efficiency.
What You Bring
- 1–2+ years of accounting experience, ideally including AP, AR, journal entries, and month-end close.
- A basic understanding of job costing and GAAP.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data.
- Experience with an ERP or accounting system; Advantage Hosted experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to spot anomalies quickly.
- Analytical thinking and a natural curiosity to understand the “why” behind the numbers.
- Clear, direct written and verbal communication.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change.
Who You Are
You like the flow of numbers. You notice when something doesn’t add up—and you want to know why.
You’re organized without being rigid, analytical without losing sight of the people behind the numbers, and comfortable asking questions when you don’t have the answer. Most importantly, you take pride in getting things right and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Salary
$57,000–$65,000, commensurate with experience.

Which companies sponsor visas for finance business partners in Maine?
Idexx Laboratories in Scarborough, Unum Group in Portland, and MaineHealth are among the larger Maine employers with established HR infrastructure capable of supporting visa sponsorship for finance roles. Smaller regional firms occasionally sponsor as well, but multinationals and large healthcare organizations are the most consistent sponsors for finance business partner positions in the state.
Which visa types are most common for finance business partner roles in Maine?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for finance business partners in Maine, as these roles typically require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or economics, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with advanced degrees may explore the EB-2 immigrant visa pathway. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadians and Mexicans may be eligible for TN visa status under the USMCA trade agreement.
Which cities in Maine have the most finance business partner sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Maine's primary market for finance business partner roles, home to the state's largest concentration of corporate employers, financial services firms, and regional healthcare organizations. Augusta, as the state capital, offers opportunities with government-adjacent and insurance sector employers. Scarborough is notable specifically because of Idexx Laboratories, one of Maine's largest private employers with active finance hiring.
How to find finance business partner visa sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify Maine employers actively open to sponsoring finance business partner candidates. Rather than sorting through hundreds of listings manually, you can search by role and state to surface relevant opportunities at employers like Idexx Laboratories and Unum Group who have a history of sponsoring international finance professionals.
Are there state-specific considerations for finance business partners seeking sponsorship in Maine?
Maine's finance job market is smaller than Boston or New York, so the pool of sponsoring employers is more limited. However, the state's healthcare and life sciences sectors, anchored by MaineHealth and Idexx Laboratories, have consistent demand for finance business partners with strategic and analytical skills. The University of Maine system produces local finance talent, so international candidates benefit from emphasizing specialized industry experience that differentiates them in this market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored finance business partner jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
