Which companies sponsor visas for cloud architects in Maryland?
Maryland's largest visa sponsors for cloud architects are federal IT contractors and professional services firms. Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, and Northrop Grumman consistently file H-1B visa petitions for cloud-related roles. Larger technology firms with Maryland offices, including Amazon Web Services and Accenture Federal Services, also sponsor cloud architects. Government contracting companies dominate sponsorship activity here more than in most other states.
Which visa types are most common for cloud architect roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for cloud architects in Maryland, given that cloud architecture consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1B intracompany transferee status through multinational employers are another common pathway. TN visa status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose roles fall within the qualifying occupation list.
How to find cloud architect visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse cloud architect openings in Maryland without sorting through roles that won't support international candidates. Because Maryland's market skews heavily toward federal contractors, filtering by employer type on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to firms with established sponsorship processes for cloud and infrastructure roles.
Which cities in Maryland have the most cloud architect sponsorship jobs?
Bethesda and Rockville, in Montgomery County, host the highest concentration of cloud architect sponsorship roles, driven by the density of federal agencies and contractors headquartered there. Columbia, situated between Baltimore and Washington, is a secondary hub with significant IT services employment. Baltimore itself has growing demand, particularly tied to the Johns Hopkins enterprise and financial services firms with technology operations in the city.
Are there any Maryland-specific considerations for cloud architects seeking visa sponsorship?
Security clearance eligibility is a meaningful factor in Maryland's federal contracting market. Many cloud architect roles tied to agencies like NSA, DISA, or DHS require active clearances, which are generally not accessible to non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents. This narrows the sponsorship-eligible pool to commercial and unclassified contractor work. University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins graduate programs feed strong local pipelines, and some employers recruit internationally through those institutional relationships.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored cloud architect jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
