Which companies sponsor visas for healthcare assistants in Maryland?
Johns Hopkins Health System, University of Maryland Medical System, MedStar Health, and Adventist HealthCare are among the largest healthcare employers in Maryland with established international hiring programs. Federally qualified health centers and long-term care facilities in the Baltimore-Washington corridor also sponsor healthcare assistants, particularly for roles in underserved communities where staffing shortages are pronounced.
Which visa types are most common for healthcare assistant roles in Maryland?
The H-1B visa applies when the role meets specialty occupation criteria, which healthcare assistant positions do not always satisfy. More commonly, healthcare assistants pursue EB-3 immigrant visas through employer-sponsored permanent residency, or the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare classifications. Some positions at nonprofits or academic medical centers may also support J-1 exchange visitor programs.
Which cities in Maryland have the most healthcare assistant sponsorship jobs?
Baltimore has the highest concentration of healthcare assistant sponsorship jobs in Maryland, driven by its major academic medical centers and hospital networks. Rockville, Silver Spring, and Bethesda in Montgomery County also see consistent demand, reflecting the density of specialty clinics and healthcare systems serving the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Annapolis and Columbia are secondary markets with growing outpatient care infrastructure.
How to find healthcare assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to show employers actively sponsoring visas for healthcare assistant roles in Maryland, saving you from sifting through postings that don't support international candidates. You can search by location within the state to compare openings across Baltimore, Montgomery County, and the D.C. suburbs. Migrate Mate's listings focus on verified sponsorship-willing employers rather than general healthcare job boards.
Are there state-specific considerations for healthcare assistants seeking sponsorship in Maryland?
Maryland's proximity to federal health agencies in the D.C. corridor, including NIH and CMS, shapes the state's healthcare hiring patterns and can support candidates interested in research-adjacent clinical roles. Maryland also participates in the Conrad 30 waiver program, which allows J-1 physicians to convert status by working in medically underserved areas, though this applies to doctors rather than healthcare assistants specifically. Prevailing wage determinations for healthcare assistant roles in Maryland reflect the higher cost of living in the Baltimore-Washington region.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored healthcare assistant jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
