Which companies sponsor visas for QA engineers in Maryland?
Defense and government IT contractors are among the most active sponsors for QA engineers in Maryland. Companies like Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, Northrop Grumman, and Perspecta have filed H-1B visa petitions for quality assurance and software testing roles. Larger commercial tech firms and federal health IT contractors, including those supporting agencies like the FDA and NIH in the Bethesda corridor, also sponsor QA positions regularly.
Which visa types are most common for QA engineer roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for QA engineers in Maryland, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals. Candidates already holding OPT or STEM OPT authorization from Maryland universities like University of Maryland College Park frequently use those statuses while securing H-1B sponsorship.
Which cities in Maryland have the most QA engineer sponsorship jobs?
The highest concentration of sponsored QA engineer roles in Maryland is in the Baltimore-Washington corridor, particularly Bethesda, Rockville, and the Silver Spring area in Montgomery County, which hosts a dense cluster of federal contractors and health IT firms. Baltimore itself has an active tech scene with employers in cybersecurity and healthcare IT. Columbia and Annapolis Junction also see significant activity given the proximity to NSA and intelligence community contractors.
How to find qa engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify QA engineer positions in Maryland without sorting through companies that don't sponsor. You can filter by state and role type to focus on the Baltimore-Washington corridor and defense IT hub areas. Searching through Migrate Mate saves time compared to manually researching which Maryland employers have filed LCAs or H-1B petitions.
Are there any Maryland-specific considerations for QA engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
A notable factor in Maryland is that a large share of QA engineering roles with federal contractors require security clearances, which are generally not available to non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents. This significantly narrows the pool of sponsoring employers for visa holders. Candidates are better positioned targeting commercial tech firms, health IT companies near NIH and FDA, and university-affiliated research organizations, where clearance requirements are less common and sponsorship is more feasible.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored qa engineer jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
