Which companies sponsor visas for back end developers in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a strong base of employers with established visa sponsorship programs for back end developers. Companies like Amazon (with major Boston offices), HubSpot, Wayfair, MathWorks, Chewy, and Biogen regularly file H-1B petitions for software engineering roles. The state's large biotech and fintech sectors also produce consistent sponsorship activity from mid-size and growth-stage companies alongside enterprise employers.
Which visa types are most common for back end developer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for back end developers in Massachusetts. Back end development consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation given its degree requirements in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some employers in Cambridge and Boston also sponsor L-1 transfers for internal hires and, less frequently, O-1 visas for engineers with demonstrated exceptional ability.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most back end developer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of sponsored back end developer roles, anchored by tech companies, biotech firms, and university-affiliated employers in Kendall Square and the Seaport District. Waltham and Burlington form a secondary corridor with significant enterprise software and financial technology employers. Worcester is a smaller but growing market, particularly through its connections to local research universities.
How to find back end developer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify Massachusetts employers actively hiring back end developers with H-1B support. Rather than sorting through general postings, you can search by role and state to surface companies with a track record of sponsoring software engineering positions. Migrate Mate also provides context on the types of employers and roles that typically support sponsorship in this state.
Are there any state-specific considerations for back end developers seeking visa sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts employers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements specific to the Boston-Cambridge-Newton metropolitan area, which reflects the region's competitive engineering market. The presence of MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, and Boston University creates a strong university pipeline that many local employers actively recruit from, meaning sponsored back end roles here often attract high competition from candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT extensions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored back end developer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
