Which companies sponsor visas for engineering directors in Massachusetts?
Large technology employers with established Massachusetts offices are the most consistent sponsors for engineering director roles. Companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, HubSpot, Wayfair, Akamai, Rapid7, and PTC have active engineering leadership hiring and documented H-1B sponsorship histories. Boston's biotech sector, including firms like Moderna and Biogen, also sponsors engineering directors overseeing technical infrastructure and platform teams.
Which visa types are most common for engineering director roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa for engineering directors in Massachusetts, as the role typically meets specialty occupation requirements given its degree-level technical demands. Senior candidates with extraordinary achievement may qualify for the O-1A. Those already holding L-1A status through a multinational employer can transfer into a Massachusetts-based director role under an intracompany transfer, which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely.
How to find engineering director visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters engineering director roles specifically by sponsorship willingness, so you're not sifting through listings that won't support a visa. For Massachusetts, focus your search on Greater Boston, Cambridge, and the Route 128 technology corridor, where employer concentration is highest. Migrate Mate lets you narrow by location and role level, making it easier to identify active openings from companies with a history of sponsoring senior engineering hires.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most engineering director sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of engineering director openings in Massachusetts, driven by the concentration of technology firms, venture-backed startups, and major research institutions. Waltham and Burlington along the Route 128 corridor are also significant hubs, hosting established companies like Akamai and PTC. Somerville and the Seaport District in Boston have grown steadily as emerging tech employer clusters.
Are there state-specific considerations for engineering director visa sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts is a high-cost labor market, which means the Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for engineering director roles tend to be elevated compared to national averages. Employers must certify that sponsored workers are paid at or above the applicable prevailing wage level when filing an H-1B petition. The state's deep pipeline from MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, and Boston University also means employers are accustomed to sponsoring international engineering talent at senior levels.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering director jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
