Which companies in Texas sponsor visas for engineering directors?
Large technology and energy companies are the most consistent sponsors for engineering director roles in Texas. Dell Technologies and Apple sponsor heavily in Austin, while Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Shell do so in Houston. In Dallas-Fort Worth, AT&T, Texas Instruments, and Raytheon have established track records of H-1B sponsorship for senior engineering leadership positions. Smaller high-growth tech companies in Austin also sponsor but at lower volumes.
Which visa types are most common for engineering directors in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for engineering directors in Texas, as the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Senior candidates with extraordinary recognition in their field may qualify for the O-1A. Those transferring within a multinational company may use the L-1A, which is designed for managers and executives moving between affiliated entities.
Which cities in Texas have the most engineering director sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads for software and semiconductor engineering director roles, driven by its concentration of major tech companies and a growing startup ecosystem. Houston is the primary market for energy, chemical engineering, and aerospace director positions. Dallas-Fort Worth is strongest for telecom, defense, and financial technology. San Antonio has a notable cybersecurity and defense cluster centered around military installations and contractors like Booz Allen Hamilton.
How to find engineering director visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search engineering director roles in Texas without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform covers postings across Austin, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. Given that engineering director roles are senior and competitive, filtering by sponsorship status upfront saves significant time and helps you focus applications on employers already open to the process.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for engineering director visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how employers structure total compensation for engineering directors and can make prevailing wage benchmarks appear differently compared to states like California or New York. Houston's energy sector and Austin's semiconductor industry each follow distinct hiring cycles. Graduates from UT Austin, Texas A&M, and Rice University create strong local pipelines, meaning international candidates often compete with well-networked domestic applicants for the same senior roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering director jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
