Position Summary:
We're looking for a Lead Director of Software Engineering who thinks like a founder, executes like a principal engineer, and leads like someone who's done it at the highest levels of the industry. You will set the bar — and then raise it.
What You'll Actually Do:
-
Drive technical strategy across a multi-team engineering organization (50–150+ engineers), setting architectural standards, defining engineering excellence benchmarks, and personally reviewing and elevating the work.
-
Operational Efficiency. Every system design decision you make should start with the question: How to create 10x leverage? You will actively embed LLMs, generative AI, agentic workflows, and ML-powered automation into the engineering lifecycle, not just as experiments, but as production-grade differentiators.
-
Own delivery at velocity. You ship. You are accountable for outcomes, not roadmaps. You hold your teams to the same standard.
-
Partner at the executive level — with Product owners, Data Engineers, and Health care business leaders — translating business strategy into engineering bets with precision and conviction.
-
Be the technical voice in the room. You call out architectural debt, push back on infeasible timelines, and advocate for the right engineering investment.
Required Qualifications
-
10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large-scale engineering organizations. You have built and scaled systems that serve tens of thousands of users. You know what happens when your system goes down.
-
Deep, hands-on technical foundation in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and modern backend engineering at scale.
-
Proven AI platform ownership. You have deployed production AI systems - not POCs, not demos, not limited to prompt engineering. You understand model deployment pipelines, vector databases, RAG architectures, LLM orchestration, inference optimization, and responsible AI principles.
-
Track record of engineering transformation. You have migrated monoliths to microservices, modernized legacy platforms under real business pressure, and lived the consequences of every architectural decision you've made.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Healthcare or highly regulated domain experience — You have navigated HIPAA, CMS compliance, PHI data handling development.
-
Platform engineering ownership — You have built or led internal developer platforms, engineering productivity tooling.

Which companies sponsor visas for engineering directors in New Hampshire?
Defense and technology firms lead sponsorship activity for engineering directors in New Hampshire. BAE Systems in Nashua, Synopsys in Manchester, and Oracle's New Hampshire operations have filed H-1B visa petitions for senior engineering roles. Smaller software and hardware firms clustered along the Route 3 corridor in the Nashua area also sponsor at the director level, particularly for candidates with specialized systems or semiconductor expertise.
Which visa types are most common for engineering director roles in New Hampshire?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for engineering directors in New Hampshire, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a related technical field, satisfying specialty occupation requirements. Candidates with extraordinary achievement may qualify for the O-1A. Some multinational firms, including those with European or Asian parent companies, use the L-1A for directors transferring from abroad into a managerial or executive capacity.
Which cities in New Hampshire have the most engineering director sponsorship jobs?
Nashua and Manchester account for the majority of engineering director sponsorship activity in New Hampshire. Nashua's defense manufacturing base, anchored by BAE Systems and a cluster of aerospace suppliers, generates consistent demand for senior engineering leadership. Manchester, as the state's largest city, hosts a broader mix of software, cloud, and IT services employers. Portsmouth sees smaller but steady demand tied to defense contracting and advanced manufacturing firms.
How to find engineering director visa sponsorship jobs in New Hampshire?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles offering visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to search for engineering director positions in New Hampshire without sifting through postings that don't support international candidates. The platform is built for this use case, so results reflect employers actively willing to sponsor. Filtering by state and seniority level surfaces the defense, semiconductor, and software firms in the Nashua-Manchester corridor most likely to hire at the director level.
Are there state-specific or role-specific considerations for engineering directors pursuing sponsorship in New Hampshire?
New Hampshire's engineering director market is heavily influenced by federal defense contracts, meaning many roles at firms like BAE Systems may require security clearances. Sponsoring a visa does not automatically grant clearance eligibility, and some positions are restricted to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Candidates should confirm clearance requirements before applying. The University of New Hampshire and Dartmouth College also supply a graduate pipeline that shapes local hiring expectations at the director level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering director jobs in New Hampshire?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
