Which companies sponsor visas for engineering directors in Oregon?
Intel is the most consistent visa sponsor for engineering directors in Oregon, particularly at its Hillsboro campus, which is one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing sites in the U.S. Other active sponsors include Nike (Beaverton), Daimler Trucks North America (Portland), Precision Castparts, and mid-size software companies headquartered in the Portland metro. Oregon's manufacturing and semiconductor sectors tend to have the deepest sponsorship track records for senior engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for engineering director roles in Oregon?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for engineering directors in Oregon, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a closely related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with extraordinary ability may qualify for an O-1A. Some engineering directors transition through L-1A intracompany transferee visas when moving from a multinational employer's overseas office to an Oregon location.
Which cities in Oregon have the most engineering director sponsorship jobs?
Portland and the surrounding metro, particularly Hillsboro and Beaverton, account for the majority of engineering director sponsorship opportunities in Oregon. Hillsboro is the center of Oregon's semiconductor industry due to Intel's presence. Portland itself hosts corporate headquarters across manufacturing, apparel technology, and software. Eugene has a smaller but active tech sector anchored by University of Oregon spinouts and regional software employers.
How to find engineering director visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for engineering director roles in Oregon without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. Because engineering director is a senior role, postings move quickly and competition is high. Using Migrate Mate to set up targeted searches for Oregon-based engineering director openings helps international candidates stay current on sponsoring employers in the Hillsboro, Beaverton, and Portland corridors.
Are there state-specific considerations for engineering director visa sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon's engineering director roles, particularly in semiconductor manufacturing, often require candidates to meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements at the senior or Level IV wage tier, which reflects the specialized technical and managerial scope of the role. Oregon also has a strong university pipeline through Oregon State University's engineering programs and Portland State University, which some employers use for identifying senior talent. Intel's longstanding presence has created a local ecosystem familiar with sponsorship processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering director jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
