Which companies sponsor visas for financial accountants in Massachusetts?
Large financial institutions headquartered or with major operations in Boston, such as Fidelity Investments, State Street, and Liberty Mutual, have consistent records of H-1B sponsorship for accounting roles. Life sciences firms like Biogen and Vertex Pharmaceuticals also hire financial accountants and have filed H-1B petitions in Massachusetts. Universities including Harvard, MIT, and Boston University are cap-exempt employers, which can offer a distinct path for qualified candidates.
Which visa types are most common for financial accountant roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa for financial accountant positions in Massachusetts, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Some candidates transition from F-1 OPT or STEM OPT if their degree qualifies. TN visa status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose accounting credentials meet the specific requirements under USMCA.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most financial accountant sponsorship jobs?
Boston accounts for the largest share of financial accountant sponsorship activity in Massachusetts, driven by its concentration of financial services, asset management, and professional services employers. Cambridge and Waltham are secondary hubs, particularly for life sciences and technology companies that employ internal accounting teams. Worcester and Burlington also have smaller but active markets, primarily tied to regional corporate offices and healthcare organizations.
How to find financial accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship, which is particularly useful for financial accountant candidates in Massachusetts given the volume of employers across Boston's financial district and the Route 128 corridor. Searching Migrate Mate by role and state lets you focus on openings where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than sorting through postings that exclude international applicants.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific considerations for financial accountants seeking visa sponsorship?
Massachusetts employers filing H-1B petitions for financial accountants must pay the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the role and location, which is benchmarked to the Boston-Cambridge-Newton metropolitan area for most positions. The state's high concentration of cap-exempt institutions, including its many universities and nonprofit research organizations, means some candidates can avoid the H-1B lottery entirely if they secure a role at a qualifying employer. CPA licensure requirements in Massachusetts are separate from visa eligibility but matter for career progression.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored financial accountant jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
