Job title: Global Medical Director Stakeholder Engagement TA-aligned
Location: Cambridge, MA; Morristown, NJ
About the job
Join the engine of Sanofi’s mission — where deep immunoscience meets bold, AI-powered research. In R&D, you’ll drive breakthroughs that could turn the impossible into possible for millions.
General Information:
This position is part of the Global Medical Immunology team, which falls under the Medical Affairs Specialty Care organization at Sanofi. Our Medical Affairs function serves as a strategic partner with Clinical, Commercial, Regulatory, and Market Access teams, providing therapeutic solutions to support patients’ needs. The Global Medical Immunology team takes pride in supporting Sanofi’s commitment to advancing science to improve patients’ lives.
At Sanofi, diversity and inclusion are foundational to our operations and are embedded in our Core Values. We respect the diversity of our people, their backgrounds, and experiences. We recognize that to truly tap into the richness that diversity brings, we must lead with inclusion and foster a workplace where these differences can thrive and be leveraged to empower the lives of our employees, patients, and customers.
Business Rationale:
The Global Medical Immunology team is dedicated to supporting Sanofi’s commitment to scientific exploration. We work on first-in-class treatments and have a robust pipeline of potential new medicines for chronic dermatologic, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and rheumatologic diseases. This represents an unprecedented volume of stakeholder engagement tactics that need to be developed, coordinated, and executed to prepare for the launches in the coming 1-5 years. To deliver on Sanofi’s ambition to be a leader in immunology, we are seeking a Global Data and Digital Engagement Lead to join the Global Medical Immunology team.
Role Overview / Description:
- The Global Director, Stakeholder Engagement is the TA-aligned strategic partner accountable for shaping and governing the Derm/Rheum or Resp/GI scientific stakeholder engagement strategy across the NextGen Immunology portfolio, spanning priority Medical and Scientific KOLs, key medical societies, and emerging scientific leaders. The role includes strategic stewardship of engagement with global and top-national medical societies and the anticipation of external scientific influence by KOL influencer and Digital Opinion Leader.
- This role acts as the strategic architect and driver of TA stakeholder engagement, translating Disease Area strategy into clear engagement priorities, operating models, and execution frameworks. This includes the prioritization of experts and societies shaping the scientific dialogue inside and beyond traditional medical forums. The position combines high-level strategic influence with hands-on delivery, actively driving execution through orchestration, prioritization, and decision-making rather than passive oversight.
- As the TA engagement authority, the role defines ways of working, decision frameworks, and performance expectations and role model their execution through country teams, hubs, and cross-functional partners. The role materially shapes tactical choices, sequencing, and focus, ensuring alignment with TA priorities and measurable impact.
- The role elevates the quality, consistency, and strategic value of stakeholder engagement across the TA. As a global position, it also scales delivery through affiliates and hubs, ensuring enterprise frameworks are operationalized and that Sanofi’s scientific leadership is consistently expressed with priority experts, societies, and emerging leaders.
Our Team:
This role sits within Global Medical Immunology (Specialty Care) and is designed to reflect the evolving Stakeholder Engagement operating model: closer partnership aligned within the therapeutic area with hub-enabled scale and consistent, measurable engagement practices.

Together, we chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives.
Main Responsibilities:
TA-Aligned Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Own and drive the TA stakeholder engagement strategy in direct connection to the Disease Area Strategy and TA priorities (global-to-local).

- Accountable for engagement ways of working and strategic decision frameworks (prioritization logic, operating model, governance readouts), and advisor to countries/teams on tactical choices and execution sequencing.
- Prioritize and refresh the TA’s portfolio of strategic experts and priority medical societies using defined criteria and data signals with clear differentiation between established KOLs and evolving scientific influencers.
- Drive cross-TA forums such as the Immunology Strategic Council where relevant, ensuring TA priorities and expert landscape inputs are represented.
Cross-Functional Orchestration
- Navigate effectively across Medical TA, Clinical Development, Commercial, Affiliates, GTMC, Digital, Public Affairs/Patient, and Patient Safety to enable a single, coordinated engagement narrative and plan.
- Act as a gatekeeper against siloed engagement initiatives, ensuring transparency and alignment while respecting functional ownership and compliance requirements.
- Where appropriate, serve as a single point of contact for selected global medical societies/associations to ensure continuity, governance clarity, and consistent value exchange.
Framework Deployment & Operational Excellence
- Ensure enterprise frameworks and tools are implemented in NGI operations for the TA, including but not limited to Stakeholder Engagement Framework (TRAIL), Medical Insight-to-Strategy (MedIS), Launch Excellence (SILC).
- Translate strategy into repeatable operational mechanisms (templates, stakeholder segmentation, prioritization refresh cadence, governance readouts) and scale execution through hub support and affiliate adoption.
Data-Driven Impact, Insights Loop & Performance Story
- Ensure an end-to-end insight loop is in place connecting engagement outcomes to TA decisions and priorities.
- Prepare leadership-ready engagement performance readouts for governance forums with clear, evidence-based, and decision-oriented mindset.
- Ensure high-performance delivery on engagement at priority congresses: pre-planning, alignment on objectives, coverage model, and timely post-event insight extraction and actions.
- Partner with Scientific Communications and omnichannel stakeholders to elevate future-facing engagement channels.
- Leverage available data and external signals to identify emerging experts and shifts in scientific influence relevant to TA priorities, ensuring engagement strategies remain current and future-oriented.

Which companies sponsor visas for medical directors in Massachusetts?
Academic medical centers and large health systems are the most active sponsors. Mass General Brigham, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, UMass Memorial Health, and Tufts Medicine have all sponsored medical directors through H-1B and EB-2 pathways. Large insurers like Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and point-of-care biotech firms in the Cambridge-Boston corridor also sponsor physician leadership roles with some regularity.
Which visa types are most common for medical director roles in Massachusetts?
H-1B is the most common pathway for medical directors in Massachusetts, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a medical degree. Employers with cap-exempt status, such as university-affiliated hospitals, can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery. O-1A is an option for physician leaders with documented national recognition. Many medical directors also pursue EB-2 or EB-1B permanent residency sponsored by their employer.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most medical director sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of medical director sponsorship roles, driven by the concentration of academic medical centers, health insurers, and life sciences companies. Worcester is a secondary hub, anchored by UMass Chan Medical School and UMass Memorial Health. Springfield sees demand from Baystate Health. Smaller clusters exist in Burlington and Woburn, where managed care and specialty clinic networks operate regional offices.
How to find medical director visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for medical director roles in Massachusetts that include visa sponsorship. The platform filters jobs specifically by sponsorship availability, so you can focus on employers actively willing to file a petition rather than manually screening hundreds of listings. Medical director searches on Migrate Mate surface roles across health systems, insurers, and biotech companies throughout the state.
What should international physicians know about medical director hiring in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts requires medical directors to hold a current medical license issued by the Board of Registration in Medicine. International physicians must verify that ECFMG certification and any residency or fellowship training credentials are in order before a sponsor can complete the H-1B petition. The state's high concentration of teaching hospitals also means many medical director postings are tied to faculty appointments, which can support cap-exempt H-1B filing and strengthen green card sponsorship cases.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical director jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
