Which companies sponsor visas for medical directors in Pennsylvania?
UPMC, Penn Medicine, Jefferson Health, and Geisinger Health System are among the largest employers of medical directors in Pennsylvania and have established histories of H-1B visa sponsorship for physician leadership roles. Large insurers like Independence Blue Cross and Highmark also hire medical directors and have sponsored work visas for qualified international candidates in clinical operations and managed care.
Which visa types are most common for medical director roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa for medical directors in Pennsylvania, as these roles typically require a medical degree and meet the specialty occupation standard. Physicians who completed U.S. residency or fellowship on a J-1 visa may need a J-1 waiver before an employer can sponsor an H-1B. Some international candidates also qualify under the O-1A if they have demonstrated exceptional achievement in medicine.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most medical director sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of medical director openings in Pennsylvania, driven by its concentration of academic health systems, specialty hospitals, and managed care organizations. Pittsburgh is the second-largest market, anchored by UPMC's extensive network. Harrisburg and Hershey also generate demand through PinnacleHealth and Penn State Health, particularly for medical directors in government health programs and academic clinical roles.
How to find medical director visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a track record of visa sponsorship, making it easier to find medical director positions in Pennsylvania without sorting through roles that don't support international candidates. You can filter by state and role type to surface relevant openings at health systems, insurers, and multispecialty groups across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and other Pennsylvania markets.
Are there any state-specific considerations for medical directors pursuing sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania requires medical directors to hold an active Pennsylvania medical license, which international physicians must obtain separately from their visa process. The state's high concentration of ACGME-accredited residency programs creates a pipeline of internationally trained physicians already familiar with Pennsylvania health systems, which can work in a candidate's favor when approaching employers about sponsorship. Prevailing wage requirements for H-1B sponsorship are determined by the metropolitan area, so expectations differ between Philadelphia and smaller Pennsylvania markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical director jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
