INTRODUCTION

The Assistant Technical Manager provides technical expertise for the Modern Theatre and the Theatre Department. This position assists with work in the Sullivan Studio Theatre, Modern Theatre, and other venues used by the Theatre Department. They assist with managing the facilities and the events and productions in them. This position works with Modern Theatre, Theatre Department and University staff, as well as work-study students, professional designers, technicians, and rental clients.

PRIMARY/PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage events independently as assigned in the Modern Theatre and Sullivan Studio Theatre or other venues as needed.
• Assist Modern Theatre staff, Theatre Department staff, members of University offices, and rental clients to plan and implement lighting, sound, scenery, and projection in the theatres.
• Lead work crews as assigned during production activities and in supporting maintenance of backstage, storage areas and equipment in the theatres and other Theatre Department controlled areas.
• Work with the General Manager and other technical staff to assure effective communication and safety during assigned activities in Modern Theatre and Sullivan Studio Theatre spaces. Train for and implement procedures to assure safety and security in the theatres, including use of infrastructure, equipment & materials, student training, and securing the space.
• Support implementation of technical projects to improve the safety and operation of the theater spaces and support spaces including the organization of backstage and storage areas.
• Support implementation of technical projects to improve the safety and operation of the theaters.
• Supervise and provide design expertise for theatrical performances and finals as assigned.
• Participate in Theatre Department technical, facility, and operational planning. Attend Departmental meeting when available.

COMPENSATION

• Salary range: $26/hour - $30/hour.
