Which companies sponsor visas for accountants in Michigan?
Large employers with active sponsorship histories for accounting roles in Michigan include General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Stellantis, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, Ernst and Young, and major health systems like Henry Ford Health and Beaumont Health. These organizations regularly file Labor Condition Applications for accountant and financial analyst positions and have dedicated immigration support teams.
Which visa types are most common for accountant roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for accountants in Michigan, as accounting meets the specialty occupation requirement given its degree prerequisites. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA professional list, which covers accountants specifically. Some multinational firms also use the L-1B for intracompany transfers into Michigan-based finance roles.
Which cities in Michigan have the most accountant sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its suburbs, including Troy, Southfield, and Dearborn, concentrate the largest share of sponsored accountant roles due to automotive and financial services headquarters. Grand Rapids is a growing secondary market with strong manufacturing and healthcare employers. Ann Arbor adds demand through the University of Michigan, its affiliated health system, and a cluster of technology and life sciences firms.
How to find accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship, saving accountants from applying to positions that will not support work authorization. You can search by state and filter to Michigan accountant roles directly on Migrate Mate, which surfaces opportunities across public accounting firms, corporate finance teams, and healthcare organizations that have sponsored candidates before.
Are there any Michigan-specific factors accountants should know when seeking visa sponsorship?
Michigan's heavy concentration in automotive manufacturing means many sponsored accountant roles involve cost accounting, internal audit, and financial planning functions tied to that industry. The University of Michigan and Michigan State University produce significant international graduate pipelines, making Ann Arbor and East Lansing practical starting points. Prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are determined by the specific metropolitan statistical area, so Detroit-area and Grand Rapids-area roles carry different wage benchmarks under Department of Labor guidelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accountant jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
