Which companies in Minnesota sponsor visas for accountants?
Several large Minnesota-based employers have a track record of sponsoring accountants, including Target, UnitedHealth Group, U.S. Bancorp, Best Buy, and Ecolab. The Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) also maintain offices in Minneapolis and have sponsored H-1B visa petitions for accounting professionals. Sponsorship is more common at large corporations and national firms than at smaller regional CPA practices.
What visa types are most common for accountants in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa for accountant roles in Minnesota, as accounting generally qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. CPAs and senior finance professionals with extraordinary credentials may qualify for the O-1A. Candidates from Australia may consider the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa for accountant roles.
Which Minnesota cities have the most accountant visa sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and St. Paul account for the large majority of accountant sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota, driven by the metro area's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and professional services firms. Rochester has a smaller but notable market anchored by Mayo Clinic, which employs accounting and finance staff. Outside those cities, sponsorship opportunities are significantly less frequent.
How to find accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship, so you can search accountant roles in Minnesota without sorting through positions that won't consider international candidates. Migrate Mate's listings cover corporate accounting, public accounting, and finance roles across the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota, making it a practical starting point for candidates who need H-1B or other employer-sponsored visa support.
Are there any Minnesota-specific factors that affect accountant visa sponsorship?
Minnesota's high concentration of healthcare, retail, and financial services employers means accountant roles often require industry-specific knowledge, particularly around healthcare finance or retail accounting systems. The University of Minnesota and other state schools produce a strong local accounting pipeline, which means sponsored candidates typically need to demonstrate specialized skills or credentials. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage requirement applies to all H-1B filings, and employers must meet wage levels set for the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accountant jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
