Which companies sponsor visas for accountants in Iowa?
Principal Financial Group, Nationwide Insurance, and Deloitte's Des Moines office are among the larger Iowa employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for accounting roles. Regional firms serving the agricultural sector, including cooperatives and commodities companies, also sponsor accounting staff periodically. Sponsorship patterns vary by firm size and hiring cycle, so reviewing recent Labor Condition Application filings is the most reliable way to identify active sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for accountant roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for accountants in Iowa, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. TN visa status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals working as accountants under USMCA. Some candidates already holding OPT or STEM OPT authorization also fill accounting positions before pursuing employer-sponsored visas.
How to find accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is a job board specifically built for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S., including accountant roles in Iowa. Filtering by state and role on Migrate Mate surfaces employers actively open to sponsoring candidates. Because Iowa's accounting market is concentrated in Des Moines and a handful of secondary cities, setting location filters precisely helps avoid listings from firms not operating in the state.
Which cities in Iowa have the most accountant sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines is Iowa's primary market for sponsored accounting roles, driven by its concentration of insurance, financial services, and corporate headquarters. Cedar Rapids supports accounting demand through its manufacturing and technology sectors, while Iowa City benefits from University of Iowa-affiliated institutions and healthcare system employers. Davenport, as part of the Quad Cities metro, offers additional opportunities through its cross-border Illinois business community.
Are there state-specific considerations for accountants seeking visa sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa does not impose state-level licensing requirements that differ significantly from national CPA standards, but employers filing Labor Condition Applications must pay the prevailing wage for the specific metropolitan statistical area where the accountant will work. Des Moines and Cedar Rapids fall under separate wage determinations, so an offer in one city may reflect different requirements than the other. Iowa's agricultural sector also creates specialized demand for accountants with tax or cost accounting experience relevant to farming and commodity operations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accountant jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
