Which companies sponsor visas for bookkeepers in Michigan?
Large employers with established immigration programs are the most consistent sponsors. In Michigan, that includes major healthcare networks like Henry Ford Health and Beaumont Health, automotive-adjacent corporations headquartered in the Detroit metro area, and large accounting or professional services firms with Michigan offices. Smaller regional firms occasionally sponsor but less predictably. Employers who have previously filed H-1B petitions for accounting roles are the strongest candidates to approach.
Which visa types are most common for bookkeeper roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for bookkeeper positions, provided the employer requires at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. Some bookkeepers from specific countries may also qualify under TN visa (for Canadians and Mexicans under USMCA) or the E-3 visa (for Australians). The role must meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning a general high school diploma background would not qualify for these categories.
Which cities in Michigan have the most bookkeeper sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding suburbs, including Troy, Southfield, and Dearborn, account for the largest share of Michigan bookkeeper sponsorship activity given the concentration of large corporate headquarters and healthcare systems. Grand Rapids is a secondary hub with growing finance and healthcare employer presence. Ann Arbor attracts some sponsorship activity tied to the University of Michigan's affiliated employers and the broader tech and research community in that corridor.
How to find bookkeeper visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship and lets you filter bookkeeper roles by state, including Michigan. Because sponsorship is not always explicitly advertised, focusing on employers with a documented history of H-1B filings for accounting roles in Michigan improves your odds. Migrate Mate surfaces these employers so you can prioritize applications where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than an unknown.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for bookkeepers seeking visa sponsorship?
Michigan's manufacturing and automotive industries create steady demand for accounting support roles, but bookkeepers at smaller suppliers or dealerships are less likely to sponsor than larger corporate entities. Public universities such as the University of Michigan and Michigan State University have active international alumni networks that sometimes connect graduates to sponsoring employers in-state. Employers must pay the prevailing wage for the role and location as determined by the Department of Labor, which varies by county across Michigan.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored bookkeeper jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
