Search NP Jobs in MichiganNP Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for NPs in Michigan?
Michigan's largest health systems are the most active NP visa sponsors. Henry Ford Health in Detroit, Corewell Health (formerly Spectrum Health) in Grand Rapids, Michigan Medicine at the University of Michigan, and McLaren Health Care have all sponsored NPs through H-1B and TN visas. Hospital-owned multispecialty groups and federally qualified health centers also sponsor, particularly in underserved rural areas with persistent NP shortages.
Which visa types are most common for NP roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for NPs in Michigan, as nurse practitioner roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a graduate-level nursing degree. Canadian-citizen NPs frequently use the TN visa, which allows faster processing with no annual cap. Australian-citizen NPs may qualify for the E-3 visa. EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa petitions are also used by Michigan health systems sponsoring NPs toward permanent residence.
Which cities in Michigan have the most NP sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its Metro area lead Michigan for NP sponsorship volume, anchored by Henry Ford Health, Detroit Medical Center, and Ascension Michigan. Grand Rapids is the second-largest market, driven by Corewell Health's extensive outpatient network. Ann Arbor sees consistent demand through Michigan Medicine and its affiliated clinics. Lansing, Flint, and Kalamazoo also have active NP hiring, particularly in primary care and community health settings.
How to find np visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter NP roles by Michigan and view positions from health systems that have a documented history of sponsoring work visas. This is more efficient than general job boards, which don't filter by sponsorship availability. Creating a Migrate Mate profile and setting Michigan NP alerts helps you respond quickly when new positions are posted.
Are there state-specific considerations for NPs seeking sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan grants NPs full practice authority, meaning they can evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe without a physician collaboration agreement. This makes Michigan NP roles more attractive to employers and can strengthen a visa petition by demonstrating the position's specialized, independent scope. Employers must still meet prevailing wage requirements set by the Department of Labor for the specific Michigan county and specialty when filing H-1B or PERM-based petitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored np jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
