Which companies sponsor visas for service techs in Michigan?
Large automotive manufacturers and their supplier networks are the most active visa sponsors for service tech roles in Michigan. Companies like General Motors, Ford, Stellantis, BorgWarner, and Bosch have established sponsorship programs and regularly hire international candidates with specialized technical skills. Smaller equipment dealers and industrial service firms do sponsor occasionally, but the most consistent activity comes from large OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with dedicated HR infrastructure.
Which visa types are most common for service tech roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for service techs whose roles require at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field, such as engineering or mechatronics. Roles that involve installation, diagnostics, or maintenance of specialized equipment may also be sponsored under the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, provided the job duties align with an eligible USMCA occupation category. Eligibility depends on the specific role and employer.
How to find service tech visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and lets you filter service tech roles in Michigan by visa sponsorship status, saving you time that would otherwise go toward screening out employers who don't sponsor. The platform aggregates sponsoring employers across automotive, industrial, and equipment service sectors in Michigan, so you can focus on applications where your work authorization needs are already accounted for by the hiring company.
Which cities in Michigan have the most service tech sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its suburbs, including Warren, Auburn Hills, and Dearborn, concentrate the highest volume of service tech sponsorship opportunities due to the density of automotive OEMs and suppliers. Grand Rapids has a growing manufacturing and medical equipment base that generates service tech demand. Lansing and Flint also see activity tied to GM assembly plants and affiliated supplier networks, making the I-75 and I-96 corridors the most productive areas to target.
Are there state-specific considerations for service tech visa sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's heavy concentration in automotive and industrial manufacturing means service tech roles here often require familiarity with specific platforms, such as CNC machinery, automotive diagnostic systems, or robotics used on assembly lines. Employers filing H-1B petitions must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Detroit or Grand Rapids metropolitan areas, which are set by occupation and experience level. Michigan State University and University of Michigan also supply engineering talent pipelines that influence how employers structure sponsorship roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored service tech jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
