Job Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
As a Technical Product Manager for Robotics Systems Integration, you will lead the definition, development, and integration of complex robotics solutions across manufacturing environments. This role requires you to bridge hardware and software disciplines, translating stakeholder needs into structured product requirements while ensuring alignment with business strategy, safety standards, and operational goals. You will work closely with engineering teams to drive technical discussions, manage tradeoffs, and guide products through the full lifecycle—from concept definition to deployment in production. This position calls for strong technical fluency, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to balance strategic priorities with hands-on involvement in daily development activities. Your leadership will ensure that robotics systems are designed for manufacturability, safety, and scalability, while meeting program milestones and driving continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
- Synthesize Information: Gather input from user experience design, engineering, safety, operations, and business stakeholders to define product needs and priorities to create a unified view of product needs, design requirements, and team priorities.
- Develop, Document, and Maintain Product Inputs: Create product definitions tied to business strategy. Write product requirements and maintain them throughout the development cycle. Develop financial models to understand BOM cost sensitivity and ROI targets. Support program management by creating and managing prioritized backlogs and aligning feature definition and release plans with major program milestones.
- Embed with Engineering Teams: Participate in standups, design reviews, and technical discussions to stay aligned and proactively unblock development progress. Use your multidisciplinary technical expertise to facilitate product requirement tradeoff discussions across user experience, mechanical, electrical, and software teams.
- Collaborate Across Organizations: Identify opportunities to influence partner teams in design of adjacent physical and virtual manufacturing infrastructure. Develop requirements for “robot-friendly” interfaces. Build and maintain partner team relationships for seamless collaboration.
- Support Integration into Production: Own the full product lifecycle. Support design for manufacturability, deployability, and maintainability. Manage feature intake and issue triage for deployed products. Actively search out the voice of the customer to drive continuous improvement of our products.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Experience: 3–5 years in a technical product management role, with direct involvement in hardware/software co-development, systems integration, or robotics product delivery
- Requirements Development: Skilled in translating stakeholder input into structured product requirements, including functional specs, interface definitions, and verification criteria.
- Technical Fluency: Strong understanding of complex hardware/software systems, with the ability to engage in technical discussions and evaluate tradeoffs. A background in the design of complex electromechanical system design, advanced perception systems, and/or industrial safety systems is preferred. Comfort with learning new technologies and asking the right questions is essential.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for diverse audiences.
- Tools: Familiarity with Jama Requirements Management, FigJam, Lucidspark/Lucidchart, along with excellent communication in written narrative documents and slide presentations. Experience with common product and project management tools used in both Agile and waterfall development environments.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or related field) preferred. Equivalent technical experience will be considered.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience launching robotic products
- Previous experience working with teams developing against industrial safety standards (ISO 13849, ISO 61508) or in an analogous regulatory environment (eg medical devices)
- Exposure to manufacturing environments and previous experience fielding products into live production

Which companies in Michigan sponsor visas for technical product managers?
Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis are among the most active H-1B sponsors for technical product manager roles in Michigan, particularly for TPMs working on connected vehicle platforms and manufacturing software. Beyond automotive, companies like Consumers Energy, Quicken Loans parent Rocket Companies, and enterprise software firms in the Ann Arbor and Detroit corridors have established sponsorship track records for technical product roles.
Which visa types are most common for technical product manager roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for technical product managers in Michigan. TPM roles generally qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may pursue the TN visa under the USMCA, which has no lottery and can be faster to obtain. L-1B visas appear for intracompany transfers bringing specialized product knowledge from a foreign office.
Which cities in Michigan have the most technical product manager sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding suburbs, particularly Dearborn, Auburn Hills, and Troy, concentrate the majority of technical product manager sponsorship activity due to the density of automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers pursuing digital transformation. Ann Arbor is a strong secondary market, driven by University of Michigan spin-offs, health tech companies, and a growing startup ecosystem. Grand Rapids sees more limited but emerging demand from manufacturing technology employers.
How to find technical product manager visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters technical product manager roles in Michigan by visa sponsorship status, so you are not sorting through listings from employers who will not sponsor. Michigan's TPM market skews heavily toward automotive technology and enterprise software, so filtering by those industries on Migrate Mate helps surface the most relevant opportunities. Checking for employers with prior H-1B LCA filings in the state also signals genuine sponsorship willingness.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for technical product managers in Michigan?
Michigan's automotive industry drives a distinct hiring profile for technical product managers, with many roles requiring familiarity with hardware-software integration, ADAS systems, or manufacturing execution platforms. The University of Michigan and Michigan State University produce a strong pipeline of international engineering graduates who often pursue H-1B sponsorship from Michigan-based employers. Because many sponsoring companies are large OEMs or established enterprises, they tend to have in-house immigration support and more predictable sponsorship processes than early-stage startups.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical product manager jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
