Which companies sponsor visas for IT technical support roles in Minnesota?
Large Minnesota-headquartered corporations are the most active sponsors for IT technical support positions. UnitedHealth Group, Target, Best Buy, and 3M have established immigration programs and regularly file H-1B visa petitions for technology roles. Mid-sized managed service providers and healthcare IT firms in the Twin Cities metro also sponsor, though less consistently. Checking a company's H-1B disclosure data through the DOL OFLC database gives a clearer picture of their sponsorship history.
Which visa types are most common for IT technical support roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa for IT technical support roles in Minnesota, provided the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science or information systems. Some candidates may qualify under the TN visa if they are Canadian or Mexican citizens and the role fits an eligible USMCA category. L-1 visa transfers are also possible for candidates already employed at a multinational with a Minnesota office.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most IT technical support sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul account for the overwhelming majority of IT technical support sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota. The broader Twin Cities metro, including suburbs like Bloomington, Eden Prairie, and Minnetonka, hosts corporate headquarters and technology campuses that drive most sponsored hiring. Rochester sees some demand tied to IBM and Mayo Clinic's technology operations. Outside these areas, sponsorship opportunities become significantly less frequent.

Filtering by the Twin Cities metro will return the highest concentration of results.
Are there any Minnesota-specific considerations for IT technical support sponsorship candidates?
Minnesota's strong healthcare IT sector, driven by UnitedHealth Group, Optum, and Mayo Clinic, creates consistent demand for IT technical support professionals with healthcare systems experience. Employers filing H-1B petitions must pay the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area, which is distinct from national averages. Candidates with degrees from Minnesota universities like the University of Minnesota or Minnesota State system may find alumni networks helpful when targeting local employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored it technical support jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
