Which companies sponsor visas for occupational therapists in Minnesota?
The most active sponsors for occupational therapist roles in Minnesota include M Health Fairview, Allina Health, HealthPartners, Essentia Health, and the Mayo Clinic system. Large hospital networks and integrated health systems file the majority of H-1B and PERM petitions for OTs in the state. Rehabilitation-focused providers and school districts occasionally sponsor as well, though less frequently than major health systems.
Which visa types are most common for occupational therapist roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for occupational therapists in Minnesota, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree under current USCIS standards. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification is also relatively common, particularly with large health systems on the EB-3 skilled worker path. Some international OTs also enter through the TN visa if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most occupational therapist sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul account for the largest share of OT sponsorship activity in Minnesota, driven by the concentration of major hospital systems and specialty clinics in the Twin Cities metro. Rochester is a secondary hub due to Mayo Clinic's presence. Duluth and St. Cloud have smaller but active OT markets, primarily through regional health systems like Essentia Health and CentraCare.
How to find occupational therapist visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship, and filters occupational therapist roles in Minnesota by employers with a documented sponsorship history. Rather than sorting through general job boards and guessing which employers will sponsor, Migrate Mate surfaces OT positions at Minnesota health systems and clinics that have filed H-1B or PERM petitions in the past.
Are there any state-specific considerations for occupational therapists seeking visa sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota requires OTs to hold a state license from the Minnesota Board of Occupational Therapy Practice before practicing, which is separate from federal visa approval. International OTs will need to have their credentials evaluated, typically through NBCOT, and must pass the NBCOT examination. Employers generally expect licensure to be in place or in process before extending a sponsorship offer. Minnesota's strong university programs at the University of Minnesota and St. Catherine University also create a competitive local graduate pipeline.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored occupational therapist jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
