Which companies sponsor visas for occupational therapists in Michigan?
Michigan's largest health systems are the most active sponsors for occupational therapist roles, including Henry Ford Health, Beaumont Health (now part of Corewell Health), the University of Michigan Health System, Sparrow Health System, and McLaren Health Care. Rehabilitation-focused providers and long-term care networks also sponsor, though their capacity varies by facility size and current staffing needs.
Which visa types are most common for occupational therapist roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most widely used visa for occupational therapists in Michigan, as the role generally qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree under current USCIS standards. Some employers also sponsor EB-3 immigrant visas for permanent residence. International OTs from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa. Canadian and Mexican nationals should explore the TN visa category, which includes physical therapists but not occupational therapists as a listed profession.
Which cities in Michigan have the most occupational therapist sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its metro area lead Michigan for occupational therapist sponsorship opportunities, anchored by large health systems like Henry Ford and Corewell Health. Grand Rapids is a growing hub, supported by Corewell Health's west Michigan network and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Flint also have consistent OT demand through regional hospital systems and outpatient rehabilitation networks.
How to find occupational therapist visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters occupational therapist roles in Michigan to only show positions where employers have demonstrated a history of visa sponsorship, saving time compared to manually reviewing postings. You can filter by city and employment setting, which is useful for OTs targeting specific practice areas like pediatrics or inpatient rehabilitation across Michigan's major health systems.
Are there state-specific requirements international occupational therapists should know about in Michigan?
Michigan requires occupational therapists to hold a state license issued by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). Before applying for licensure, candidates must pass the NBCOT certification exam. International applicants whose degrees were completed outside the U.S. will need a credential evaluation confirming their education meets Michigan's standards. Employers typically expect licensure to be in place or actively in progress before finalizing a visa sponsorship offer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored occupational therapist jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
