Which companies in Minnesota sponsor visas for systems engineers?
Medtronic, 3M, Cargill, and United Health Group are among the most active sponsors for systems engineer roles in Minnesota, based on historical H-1B visa filing data. Defense and aerospace contractors operating in the Twin Cities metro, along with manufacturing firms in Rochester and Duluth, also file sponsorship petitions for systems engineering positions regularly.
Which visa types are most common for systems engineer roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for systems engineers in Minnesota, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify under the TN visa using the engineer classification, which does not require a lottery.
How to find systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, making it practical to search for systems engineer roles in Minnesota without sorting through postings that don't support international candidates. Employers in the Twin Cities medical device and enterprise technology sectors appear frequently, and filtering by location and role on Migrate Mate narrows results to relevant opportunities.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul account for the majority of systems engineer sponsorship activity in Minnesota, driven by the concentration of large employers in healthcare technology, financial services, and manufacturing. Rochester sees demand tied to medical technology companies, and Bloomington hosts several defense and engineering contractors that have filed H-1B petitions for systems engineering positions.
Are there state-specific considerations for systems engineers seeking sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota's medical device industry, anchored by companies like Medtronic and Boston Scientific, creates consistent demand for systems engineers with hardware and software integration experience. The University of Minnesota produces a pipeline of engineering graduates that employers draw from, meaning international candidates benefit from demonstrating specialized experience that complements, rather than duplicates, that local talent pool.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored systems engineer jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
