This is a mid-level, hands-on engineering role for someone ready to own automation and integration initiatives from initial requirements through production deployment and ongoing support. You will develop scalable solutions using Python, PowerShell, REST APIs, and cloud technologies, while partnering with business and technical teams to deliver measurable operational improvements.
In addition to being a strong individual contributor, you will mentor junior team members, establish development best practices, and help shape Gregory Construction’s scripting-first automation strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation Solution Development: Design, develop, test, and optimize automation scripts and integration solutions that reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, mitigate risk, and enhance business processes.
- API Integration: Lead API integration efforts involving authentication, rate limiting, webhooks, error handling, data transformation, data pipelines, and production-grade reliability.
- End-to-End Project Ownership: Own automation and integration projects from requirements gathering and solution design through development, testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and ongoing support.
- Python & PowerShell Development: Build reliable, maintainable, and scalable automation solutions using Python and/or PowerShell.
- Development Standards & DevOps: Establish and promote coding standards, source control practices, unit and integration testing, CI/CD processes, observability, and high-quality technical documentation.
- Production Support & Reliability: Monitor production automations, troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement appropriate logging, metrics, alerts, and other observability practices.
- Mentorship: Mentor junior IT team members in scripting, APIs, development practices, troubleshooting, documentation, and professional growth.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate new tools, technologies, and approaches that can strengthen Gregory Construction’s automation capabilities while maintaining appropriate security and governance.
- Business Partnership: Work closely with business and technical teams to identify high-value automation opportunities, understand requirements, and translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
- Documentation: Create and maintain clear technical documentation for scripts, integrations, processes, configurations, and support procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 2–5+ years of professional experience delivering IT automation, scripting, software integration, or API-based solutions.
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or PowerShell, including experience writing maintainable, production-quality code.
- Proven experience working with REST APIs, including authentication, error handling, data transformation, and common integration patterns.
- Experience with Git/source control, automated testing, and basic CI/CD practices.
- Experience working with databases and data-driven integrations.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support solutions in production environments.
- Ability to independently manage technical projects and priorities while collaborating effectively with stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong documentation, organization, and attention-to-detail skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure, including native cloud services and API integrations.
- Previous experience mentoring junior technical team members or leading small technical projects.
- Knowledge of security best practices for automation, APIs, credentials, secrets, authentication, and system integrations.
- Experience implementing logging, monitoring, alerting, and other observability practices.
- Relevant technical certifications, such as Microsoft Azure, Python, or related development and cloud certifications.
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will be able to identify opportunities where technology can eliminate repetitive work, design a practical solution, and carry that solution all the way into reliable production use. You should be comfortable balancing hands-on development with stakeholder communication, troubleshooting, documentation, and mentorship.
You will help Gregory Construction build sustainable internal automation capabilities while establishing the technical foundation for increasingly advanced integration and orchestration solutions.

Which companies sponsor visas for automation engineers in Mississippi?
Ingalls Shipbuilding (a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries) in Pascagoula is one of Mississippi's largest engineering employers and has a history of sponsoring skilled technical roles. Toyota's Blue Springs plant in Blue Springs, along with chemical and energy companies operating along the Gulf Coast, also hire automation engineers and have filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications. Large manufacturers with dedicated engineering teams are the most consistent sponsors in this state.
Which visa types are most common for automation engineer roles in Mississippi?
The H-1B visa is the most common sponsorship path for automation engineers in Mississippi, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Some employers also sponsor TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering credentials. Candidates with extraordinary achievement in automation may explore the O-1A, though it requires substantial documentation.
Which cities in Mississippi have the most automation engineer sponsorship jobs?
Pascagoula leads due to Ingalls Shipbuilding's scale and its demand for automation and systems engineers supporting shipbuilding operations. Jackson, as the state capital and commercial center, has opportunities in utilities, industrial controls, and process engineering. The Blue Springs and Tupelo area in northeast Mississippi benefits from Toyota's manufacturing presence, generating demand for automation talent in automotive production environments.
How to find automation engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Mississippi?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters automation engineer roles by visa sponsorship willingness, so you're not sifting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. For Mississippi, focus your search on manufacturing, defense contracting, and energy sectors where the state's sponsorship activity is concentrated. Migrate Mate lets you browse verified sponsoring employers without having to guess which companies are open to international candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for automation engineers pursuing sponsorship in Mississippi?
Mississippi's automation engineering market is closely tied to defense manufacturing, automotive production, and petrochemical processing, so candidates with experience in industrial control systems, PLCs, or SCADA platforms tend to be most competitive. The University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University produce engineering graduates but have limited international pipeline into local sponsorship roles, meaning external candidates often fill gaps. Prevailing wage requirements still apply, and employers must meet Department of Labor standards regardless of the local cost of living.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored automation engineer jobs in Mississippi?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
