The Utility Locator is responsible for identifying, thoroughly locating, and marking underground utilities to minimize accidental damage or disruption of service due to construction activities. The utilities that are required to be identified include the following: telecommunications, electric, power, cable TV, gas, water, sewer, private lines, etc. PUSH, Inc. is a privately owned premier communications and power utility contractor headquartered in Rice Lake, WI. who has been providing telecom infrastructure to connect people globally for 50 years through its dedicated team members who have integrity and continually strive for excellence.
Physical and Environmental Factors:
- Ability to work outdoors and to work in all types of outdoor weather.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift as needed.
- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movement.
- Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods of time.
- 100% Field.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Locate and mark existing underground infrastructure by walking in ditches, through fields, yards, etc.
- Help direct crews to next job task.
- Set up all pipe-line crossings and work.
- Use of computerized equipment to locate.
- Must work with landowners to identify objects that are unlocatable and/or not on One Call system, including private lines.
- Must be patient and detail oriented.
- Use of maps and blueprints to locate and mark properly.
- Train and provide supervision of new locators.
- Perform all duties without supervision and at an expert level.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Work Experience: Two years of experience working as a Utility Locator.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with computerized locating equipment is required. Proven experience working around telecommunications, electric, power, cable TV, gas, water, sewer, private lines, etc.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License, Class A CDL preferred.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings.
- Demonstrate ability to read blueprints and maps.
- Skilled in utility locating.
- Proficient with computerized locating equipment.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn.
- Ability to maintain equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Abide all company and manufacturer safety procedures and industry safety standards, in addition to attending mandatory safety meetings.
