Which companies and school districts sponsor visas for school nurses in Montana?
Billings Public Schools, Great Falls Public Schools, and Missoula County Public Schools are among the larger Montana districts that have historically hired nurses. Indian Health Service facilities serving Montana's tribal nations also recruit internationally licensed nurses. Larger districts with dedicated HR departments are generally better positioned to manage sponsorship paperwork than very small rural districts.
Which visa types are most common for school nurse roles in Montana?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained school nurses, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in nursing. The EB-3 immigrant visa is also used, often through PERM labor certification. Nurses from certain countries may explore EB-2 pathways. Licensing through the Montana Board of Nursing is required before any visa petition can proceed.
Which cities in Montana have the most school nurse sponsorship jobs?
Billings is Montana's largest city and has the most substantial school district, making it the top market for school nurse roles. Missoula, Great Falls, and Helena follow as the next-largest hiring centers. Bozeman's rapidly growing school enrollment has increased demand. Smaller communities on or near tribal reservations, such as those served by the Crow and Blackfeet Nations, also post nursing positions with federal employer backing.
How to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Montana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship roles, letting you search school nurse positions in Montana without manually screening hundreds of postings. Because Montana's sponsoring districts are fewer than in large coastal states, a targeted search on Migrate Mate helps you identify which districts are actively hiring and willing to sponsor, saving significant time in a relatively thin market.
Are there state-specific considerations for school nurses seeking sponsorship in Montana?
Montana requires RN licensure through the Montana Board of Nursing before employers can file an H-1B petition, so international nurses should initiate the licensure endorsement process early. Montana participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, which can simplify multi-state practice. Rural and tribal school settings may qualify for certain federal workforce shortage designations, which can influence prevailing wage determinations and employer hiring incentives.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored school nurse jobs in Montana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
