Which companies sponsor visas for school nurses in Tennessee?
Large public school districts are the primary sponsors for school nurse roles in Tennessee. Shelby County Schools, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, Knox County Schools, and Hamilton County Schools employ the most school nurses statewide. Some positions are also filled through staffing agencies that contract with districts. Sponsorship availability varies by district budget and hiring cycle, so confirming sponsorship willingness directly with the employer during outreach is important.
Which visa types are most common for school nurse roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for school nurses in Tennessee, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in nursing. Some nurses also enter through the EB-3 immigrant visa pathway, which school districts occasionally pursue for direct hire. Tennessee school nurses must hold active Tennessee RN licensure regardless of visa category, and employers must file a Labor Condition Application before petitioning.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most school nurse sponsorship jobs?
Memphis and Nashville account for the largest share of school nurse openings in Tennessee, reflecting the size of their respective school districts. Knoxville and Chattanooga also have active hiring due to Knox County Schools and Hamilton County Schools. Smaller districts in rural East Tennessee and the Cumberland Plateau region tend to post fewer openings and have less consistent sponsorship infrastructure, though workforce shortages there can sometimes prompt greater flexibility.
How to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee. The platform filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have demonstrated willingness to sponsor work visas, saving you from manually screening hundreds of postings. For school nurse roles, filtering by Tennessee and checking for H-1B or EB-3 sponsorship flags on Migrate Mate gives you a focused, current list of relevant openings across the state's major districts.
Are there state-specific considerations for school nurses seeking visa sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee requires school nurses to hold an active RN license issued by the Tennessee Board of Nursing before starting work, and international nurses must have their foreign credentials evaluated by a USCIS-approved credentialing organization such as CGFNS. Tennessee is not a Nurse Licensure Compact state for purposes of endorsement without additional steps if coming from a non-compact state. Districts must also pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the relevant Standard Occupational Classification, which applies to all H-1B petitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored school nurse jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
