Which companies sponsor visas for school nurses in Maryland?
Large public school districts, including Montgomery County Public Schools and Baltimore City Public Schools, are among the most active employers of school nurses in Maryland and have sponsored work visas for qualified international candidates. University health centers at institutions like the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University also hire school nurses and have established HR processes for sponsoring H-1B and other visa types.
Which visa types are most common for school nurse roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa for school nurses in Maryland, as registered nursing roles requiring a bachelor's degree in nursing typically qualify as specialty occupations. EB-3 immigrant visas are also used for permanent placement. Some nurses on TN status may qualify if they are Canadian or Mexican citizens, as registered nurses are explicitly listed under the TN visa's qualifying occupations.
Which cities in Maryland have the most school nurse sponsorship jobs?
Baltimore has the highest concentration of school nurse positions in Maryland, supported by its large public school system and proximity to major health systems. The D.C. suburbs, particularly Rockville and Silver Spring in Montgomery County and College Park and Hyattsville in Prince George's County, also generate consistent demand. These counties have large, diverse student populations that often drive recruitment of internationally trained nursing professionals.
How to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find school nurse roles in Maryland where employers are actively open to sponsoring international candidates. You can search by role and state to surface positions at public school districts, university health centers, and healthcare networks across Baltimore and the D.C. suburbs without sorting through listings from employers who don't sponsor.
Are there state-specific considerations for school nurses seeking visa sponsorship in Maryland?
Maryland requires school nurses to hold a current Registered Nurse license issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing, and international nurses must have their credentials evaluated before licensure. The state participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, which can simplify multi-state practice once licensed. Montgomery County and Baltimore City have well-resourced HR departments experienced with H-1B sponsorship, which can reduce administrative friction compared to smaller districts.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored school nurse jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
