Which companies sponsor visas for school nurses in South Carolina?
The largest sponsors for school nurse roles in South Carolina are public school districts, including Greenville County Schools, Charleston County School District, and Richland School District One. Some hospital systems with school-based health partnerships, such as Prisma Health and MUSC Health, also support visa sponsorship for nursing staff placed in school settings. Sponsorship is more common at larger district employers with dedicated HR and legal teams.
Which visa types are most common for school nurse roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most frequently used visa for school nurses in South Carolina when the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in nursing. Some nurses working through hospital affiliates may access EB-3 green card sponsorship. School districts that qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers, due to nonprofit or government affiliation, can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery, which is a meaningful advantage.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most school nurse sponsorship jobs?
Columbia, Greenville, and Charleston account for the majority of school nurse sponsorship opportunities in South Carolina. Columbia is home to Richland and Lexington school districts and benefits from proximity to the University of South Carolina's nursing programs. Greenville has one of the state's largest school districts. Charleston's growing population has driven school enrollment and corresponding demand for school health staff in recent years.
How to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina. The platform filters listings specifically for roles tied to visa sponsorship, so you're not sorting through positions at employers who won't sponsor. For school nurse roles, focus on large public districts and hospital-affiliated school health programs in the Columbia, Greenville, and Charleston metro areas, as these employers have the HR infrastructure to support international hires.
Are there state-specific considerations for school nurses seeking visa sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina requires school nurses to hold a valid Registered Nurse license issued or endorsed by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. International nurses must complete the NCLEX-RN and may need a credentials evaluation through a NCSBN-recognized body before licensure. Many South Carolina districts also require or prefer candidates with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which aligns with H-1B specialty occupation standards and can strengthen a sponsorship petition.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored school nurse jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
