Which companies sponsor visas for software engineers in Montana?
Montana's sponsoring employer pool is smaller than coastal tech hubs, but companies with a track record of H-1B filings include larger employers in financial technology, healthcare IT, and enterprise software. RightNow Technologies (now part of Oracle) established Bozeman as a tech hub, and several firms that followed have continued hiring engineers with visa sponsorship. Checking DOL LCA disclosure data is the most reliable way to identify active sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for software engineer roles in Montana?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software engineers in Montana, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Employers occasionally use the O-1A for candidates with exceptional ability, and multinational companies with Montana offices sometimes use the L-1B for intracompany transfers with specialized knowledge.
How to find software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Montana?
Migrate Mate filters software engineer job listings specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, which saves significant time compared to reviewing unfiltered postings. For Montana, focus your search on Bozeman and Missoula employers, since those cities hold the highest concentration of tech roles in the state. Migrate Mate also surfaces employers with a documented H-1B filing history, which helps you prioritize outreach toward companies already familiar with the sponsorship process.
Which cities in Montana have the most software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Bozeman leads the state for software engineer opportunities, largely because of the tech ecosystem that grew around Montana State University and the legacy of enterprise software companies headquartered there. Missoula is the second most active market, supported by the University of Montana and a cluster of digital services firms. Billings has a smaller but steady demand for engineers supporting healthcare and energy sector software platforms.
What should software engineers know about Montana's visa sponsorship market before applying?
Montana's tech market is growing but remains significantly smaller than states like Washington or California, so the total number of sponsoring employers is limited. Candidates with experience in industries prominent in the state, including agriculture technology, healthcare IT, and natural resource management software, are better positioned. Montana State University and the University of Montana also generate local employer relationships that can benefit recent graduates on OPT seeking a pathway to H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineer jobs in Montana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
