ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Supervisor, Controls, you will:
Implement operational priorities established by leadership and communicate work status, resource needs, escalated issues, and service updates as applicable.
Monitor work activity, system performance trends, alarms, and operational performance metrics, and recommend improvements to controls services, workflow efficiency, and service delivery.
Coordinate controls system installations, inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, maintenance activities, programming and commissioning support, and related work assignments across assigned staff and projects.
Review estimates, project information, sequences, graphics, trend data, work plans, and related documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with assigned priorities.
Assign work, monitor staffing coverage, and adjust daily work assignments to support service needs, project schedules, operational priorities, and emergency response.
Track service work, project activity, and assigned tasks to help ensure completion in alignment with scope, schedule, budget, quality, and service expectations.
Coordinate with campus departments and stakeholders to ensure controls activities align with operational needs, project schedules, and institutional priorities.
Oversee campus controls work, such as building automation systems, direct digital controls, system interfaces, related low-voltage controls applications, and operational integration with building systems, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable standards.
Participate in facilities condition assessments and provide input on controls system needs, deficiencies, and priorities.
Identify operational needs and recommend improvements to procedures, equipment, technologies, programming practices, and contracted services to enhance reliability, safety, and service quality.
Support and monitor compliance with safety, environmental, health, accessibility, cyber and data security expectations as applicable, and other operational standards, and reinforce a culture of safety and accountability.
Assist with contract coordination, vendor communication, and review of contractor performance to help ensure performance aligns with specifications, budgets, schedules, and institutional standards.
Maintain collaborative relationships with campus stakeholders, communicate work priorities and project status, manage service expectations, and share feedback with leadership to support continuous improvement.
Promote and reinforce a people-centered culture that emphasizes safety, continuous learning, collaboration, customer service, community, and operational excellence.
* Provide leadership and oversight of staff performance, such as setting goals, communicating expectations, delivering coaching and training, conducting evaluations, documenting performance, and recommending salary adjustments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree, technical training, or equivalent experience in building automation systems, controls, HVAC controls, electrical technology, mechanical systems, facilities maintenance, or another related field.
2+ years of experience coordinating installations, troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, maintenance activities, programming support, commissioning support, or related work in controls operations, building automation, HVAC controls, or related facilities operations.
2+ years of experience supervising, leading, assigning, or monitoring the work of staff, crews, contractors, or project teams.
Knowledge of building automation systems, direct digital controls, controls integration, field devices, networks, and related building systems operations.
Knowledge of applicable safety, regulatory, and operational requirements related to controls operations.
Ability to interpret work orders, estimates, sequences, control drawings, specifications, technical information, trend data, and other controls documentation.
Ability to assign, coordinate, and monitor daily work activities to support service needs, project schedules, and operational priorities.
Skilled in identifying operational issues and recommending practical solutions to support safe, reliable, and efficient service delivery.
Supervisory skills that support effective oversight, workflow coordination, accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
Strong analytical thinking and reasoning skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with campus stakeholders, contractors, and operational partners.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing operational needs.
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Able to work from a ladder and/or aerial equipment.
Available by cell phone to assist with campus emergencies.
Available for regular rotations on the weekend and after-hours on-call schedule.
* Must have a valid driver’s license and eligible to drive on University business.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, facilities management, construction management, industrial technology, mechanical systems, electrical systems, energy management, or another related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience overseeing building automation systems, direct digital controls, system integration, alarm management, trend analysis, and/or commissioning support.
Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, stakeholders, and multiple work priorities in support of operations.
Experience reviewing estimates, work plans, system documentation, control drawings, sequences, and project documentation.
Experience supporting compliance with applicable safety standards, operational policies, and controls-related requirements.
Experience using technology and systems for tracking, reporting, scheduling, communication, and operational efficiency.
Experience working in a higher education or similarly complex institutional environment.
Proficient utilizing work order systems, work tracking, project coordination, and preparing documentation.
Knowledge of University operational processes, budgeting practices, and/or institutional policies.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
State of Nebraska Journeyman Electrical License.
Type I, II, III or Universal EPA refrigeration license.
