Which companies in Nebraska sponsor visas for development engineers?
Union Pacific Railroad, Mutual of Omaha, Sandhills Global, and Fiserv are among the Nebraska-based employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for engineering roles. Omaha's financial technology sector and the state's agribusiness technology firms also sponsor development engineers with some regularity. Sponsorship availability varies by employer size, open headcount, and the specific technical requirements of each role.
Which visa types are most common for development engineer roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for development engineers in Nebraska, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying engineering classifications. Candidates already holding OPT or STEM OPT authorization can often begin work before an H-1B petition is approved.
How to find development engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it practical to search for development engineer roles in Nebraska without manually screening hundreds of postings. You can filter by state and role to surface employers actively open to sponsoring international candidates. This is more efficient than broad job searches that don't distinguish between sponsoring and non-sponsoring employers.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most development engineer sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the largest share of Nebraska's sponsored engineering positions, driven by its concentration of financial services, technology, and transportation companies. Lincoln is the secondary market, with opportunities tied to state government technology projects, University of Nebraska-affiliated employers, and a growing startup community. Smaller markets like Bellevue occasionally have openings through defense contractors operating near Offutt Air Force Base.
Are there any Nebraska-specific considerations for development engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Nebraska employers sponsoring H-1B workers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Omaha or Lincoln metropolitan areas, which are set based on local wage surveys and the specific occupational classification of the development engineer role. The University of Nebraska system and its affiliated research programs have also historically supported J-1 visa and H-1B hires in engineering and applied sciences, creating a university-to-industry pipeline worth noting when targeting Nebraska employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored development engineer jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
